The City of Durham’s Office of Performance and Innovation in the Budget and Management Services Department seeks a public service-motivated, community-oriented individual to assist with data analysis. This is a part-time internship (approx. 15-20 hours per week) responsible for working with Participatory Budgeting (PB) staff to extract meaningful insights from data, identify trends, and inform residents, staff, and leadership about PB outcomes. A highly competitive candidate will have experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis and strong oral and written communication skills.
Duties/Responsibilities
Collect, organize, and interpret data sets from various sources (e.g., databases, external data, surveys).
Quantitative and Qualitative analysis of PB program data.
Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
Research, analysis, and presentation of results.
Other special projects and data analysis as needed.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Current undergraduate or graduate student studying a field related to: Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Planning/Urban Design, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to manage and thoughtfully analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
Additional Preferred Skills
Able to communicate critical findings.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to explain complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
"Self-starter" - Must be able to work independently on assigned projects with minimal supervision.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
