Hiring Salary Range: $49,026.00 - $51,480.00
Workdays/Hours: Monday -Friday / 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Position devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, roads and traffic systems, equipment and facilities, providing custodial services, and collecting, transporting and disposing municipal solid and yard waste through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Incumbents perform a broad range of technical work ranging from routine to specialized skilled labor, technical repairs or operation of heavy equipment. Incumbents may assist in training staff and serve as a lead worker over other staff. Decision-making includes how and when tasks are carried out within an operational process, limited by the selection of the process and establishment of deadlines and outcomes. Incumbents may serve as lead workers at a job site, setting up safe work zones and training and guiding less experienced staff in assignments.
An incumbent is responsible for performing and/or leading skilled maintenance operations for assigned facilities or sites; receiving and processing work orders and service requests; inspecting facility, equipment, and/or vehicle conditions; installing, operating, and/or maintaining devices, vehicles, and other equipment; preparing and maintaining reports and records; addressing safety issues; and performing related duties.
Duties/Responsibilities
Performs work on code violating private properties; to include mowing, trimming, sawing, securing and debris removal on severely neglected properties.
Uses different types of chemicals and trailered pressure washer to remove graffiti from public and private properties.
Removes illegal dumpsites and displaced shopping carts throughout the City of Durham.
Partners with neighborhoods, non-profits and other volunteer groups for community building and community beautification projects.
Operates light to heavy equipment, to include backhoes, dingoes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and knuckle-boom trucks; as well as chainsaws, mowers, trimmers, skill saws, drills and ladders.
Works effectively with other team members and individually to safely complete projects and general maintenance of equipment.
Prepares and maintains reports and records, performs data entry, receives and processes work orders and service requests, and updates work order systems and related databases, to document and facilitate operations, and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
Four years of equipment operation, or technical repair experience in areas related to assignment.
Valid driver's license.
A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record "or" obtain within 12 months of hire.
