Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Civil Engineer (Transportation) in Dunmore, Pennsylvania

The Department of Transportation is in search of a Civil Engineer (Transportation) to oversee the final design and preparation of plans for traffic signal projects, as well as review consultant-designed projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for developing safe, efficient, and cost-effective signalized operations that comply with all specifications and regulations. This will involve creating traffic signal layouts tailored to the unique characteristics of each location, taking into account data such as crashes, traffic volumes, and roadway geometrics. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing final signal plans, special provisions, and construction estimates to ensure compliance with department standards. You will also use CADD for traffic signal design and conduct field inspections to verify proper installation. Furthermore, you will coordinate equipment testing, prepare traffic signal control permits, and estimate project costs. You will also be expected to respond promptly to inquiries and complaints, process installation requests from municipalities, and conduct traffic-engineering studies. Lastly, you will determine the initial timing and operation of signal installations, optimize timing through field studies, review reports for programmed projects, and meet with municipalities to discuss project involvement, attend field views, review design plans, and ensure that all traffic signal construction plans meet required standards and regulations.    Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • *Telework: *You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
