Nature of Work
:
This position serves as Lead Geological Engineer at the expert level in geological engineering under the Assistant Division Chief of Geology and Groundwater Section in the Engineering Geology Division. This position is responsible for supervising a Transportation Engineer IV along with on-site consultant staff, managing and completing various complex engineering geology projects relating to rock cut slopes, ground modifications, bedrock excavation, subsurface contamination, groundwater investigation, and geotechnical asset management. Planning oversight includes field monitoring and condition assessments of geotechnical assets and distresses. This position is on call to respond to support maintenance staff with any geological emergency that occurs on SHA highways or right-of-way, including sinkholes, slope failures, hazardous materials, groundwater issues, etc. This position will provide technical advice and support in geologic, geotechnical and construction issues. Also, this position will provide project development oversight related to engineering geology which includes developing plans, specifications and estimates. The Lead Geological Engineer will provide construction support related to vibration monitoring, rock excavation including rock blasting, and other geotechnical field support. Other duties include managing consultant agreements and assignments in addition to coordinating work with the Geotechnics and Specification Review elements of this and other divisions. This position will routinely assume the responsibilities of the Assistant Division Chief (Geology and Groundwater Section) in their absence.
