Center for Alcohol & Drug Treatment Licensed Practical Nurse (Evenings) in Duluth, Minnesota

Summary The Center is looking for a compassionate LPN with an ability to remain calm under pressure. The LPN will be responsible for monitoring patients, performing routine checks, and assisting Program Directors and medical staff to meet client needs. To be successful as an LPN you should be able to take direction and work well in stressful situations. A good LPN has great observational skills and empathy for patients while remaining professional. For Overnight Shifts we offer $20 bonus for each shift! Responsibilities: Assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the medical and nursing care of all patients. Explain procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation, understanding and to alleviate apprehension. Provide basic comfort, hygiene and safety for the needs of all patients. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved standing orders. Observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify the Lead Nurse or RN on call of a patient's condition and reaction to medications, treatments and significant incidents. Coordinate referrals for patients and follow up on medical referrals. Respond to life-threatening situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Document patient history and biopsychosocial status. Document cares provided and maintain patient clinical records; complete or ensure that staff on duty completes required forms accurately and completely. Monitor staff on each assigned shift, including training, coaching, motivating, evaluating, and disciplining; report personnel problems to the Treatment Director. Evaluate activities on the Unit to ensure appropriate patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service; inspect rooms and wards for cleanliness, safety and comfort. Investigate and resolve complaints or refer unusual problems to the Treatment Director. Serve as liaison between management and general staff. Keep supervisors informed of patient, staff and unit issues, and keep staff informed of changes. Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have current License for Practical Nursing in Minnesota. Must be able to work flexible hours. Must have excellent communication & able to articulate treatment to patients. Have empathy & patience for clients. Ability to take instructions from doctors and nurses.
