Aerotek Composite Technician in Duluth, Minnesota

Aerotek is hiring for Composite Technicians to work on-site with an aircraft manufacturer in Duluth Minnesota. We are looking for candidates to come work on contract for an estimated 6 months.

Job Title - Composite Technician

Pay is $30-40/hr. plus per diem for those who qualify.

Job Description

Technicians will be responsible for working with composite materials, including fiberglass, carbon fiber, and foam, to fabricate and assemble aircraft components. This role involves using prepreg fibers with resins, following drawings and schematics, and occasionally making molds through reverse engineering. The work will be in the R&D area, requiring flexibility to pivot to different tasks as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of composite experience

  • 2+ years of layup experience

  • Ability to read drawings and schematics

  • Proficiency with tools such as sanders, grinders, drills, and heat guns

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively

Work Environment

The work environment is very clean and temperature-controlled, located in a hangar with a job-shop feel. The schedule is Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday from 6 AM to 4:30 PM, with potential for a few hours of overtime based on workload. This is initially a six-month contract, with the possibility of conversion at a lower pay rate.

Job Type & Location - This is a Contract position based out of Duluth, Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble composite parts needed to support Product Development programs.

  • Use tools such as sanders, grinders, drills, heat guns, and other hand tools.

  • Execute parts and assemblies from mental concepts, verbal instructions, hand sketch drawings, or blueprints.

  • Layup, bond, and assemble composite parts using prepreg/hand layup, carbon fiber/fiberglass, and various adhesives.

  • Use specifications, drawings, and verbal instructions to build and fabricate composite parts and bonded assemblies.

  • Collaborate with a diverse team and work independently to troubleshoot problems.

  • Fabricate and apply a variety of temporary tools, including composite layup and metal fixtures.

  • Layout fabrication plans and determine sequence of operations.

  • Test prototype components and models under simulated operating conditions.

  • Understand small airplane architecture, including airframe, powerplant, and electrical systems.
