POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible and accountable for executive leadership and operational direction and performance of assigned region, working within the operating structure. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and member of the executive team, actively engages in providing operational oversight. As the accountable operations executive, responsible for the development and implementation of the integration of operations to accomplish goals focused on efficiencies and cost savings. The COO will provide leadership for appropriate functions and in collaboration with Trinity Health. Works collaboratively with other executives including those responsible for Physician Operations, Strategy, Finance, Human Resources, Nursing and Mission Integration. Fosters an environment that promotes and ensures excellence in the care experience and operational efficiencies within a variety of delivery settings.

Creates an organizational culture that celebrates diversity and a community of committed persons serving the healing ministry with focus on competencies that support values of respect, social justice, care of the poor and underserved, compassion and excellence. Ensures effective governance and establishes a participative management and engaged organizational climate that develops and maintains talent and inclusiveness within the Health Ministry (HM).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Cultural Alignment: Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the Trinity Health mission, vision, and values in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions.

Executive Leadership: Serves as a member of the executive leadership team charged with the creation of structures to support operational effectiveness and efficiencies reflective of the Trinity Health Priorities. Collaborates with executives and system office colleagues to achieve objectives. Seeks out, embraces and capitalizes on the advantages of system resources, diversity, scale, replication opportunities, people and intellectual capital. Shares accountability for the achievement of performance metrics, including development.

Health Ministry (HM) Direction: Responsible and accountable for executive leadership and directly supervises senior management team ensuring the achievement of financial, operational and strategic plans with a focus on excellence in personalized care in a variety of delivery settings. Champions change, operational improvement and growth initiatives - seeks out and employs effective change management and performance improvement techniques and tools.

Regional Accountability and Responsibility: The Chief Operating Officer reports to and is accountable to the President and CEO.

Operational Excellence: Leads the formation of the operational structure to achieve strategic goals and financial targets. The operational plan will align with the Trinity Health’s goals as well as operational structure.

Clinical Delivery: Facilitates the development and implementation of operations as it relates to alignment with and support for the integrated clinical service delivery platforms and ensures integration and alignment. Champions physician alignment strategies that lead to growth. Ensures the coordination of actions and realization of service efficiencies that drive increased quality and responsiveness to marketplace needs.

Mission and Diversity: Provides leadership in the support and sustainment of an organizational culture that celebrates a diverse community of committed persons serving the healing ministry with focus on developing competencies that support values of respect, social justice, care of the poor and underserved, compassion and excellence.

Talent Development: Mentors and develops the senior leadership team, fostering achievement of goals and objectives, high performing leadership practices, collaboration, innovation, and interdependence. Participates in succession planning and supports talent development initiatives. Employs participative management and leadership approaches that optimize organization resources and talent effectiveness and organizational learning.

Regulatory and Compliance: Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, standards of conduct, ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a thorough knowledge of healthcare management principles and techniques as normally obtained through a Master's Degree in Health Administration or a related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of leadership experience to include, but not limited to, experience as a senior leader or executive (such as a CNO, CMO, CAO, CFO, COO or had oversight over multiple operational functions in an integrated health care delivery entity, or prior experience as a President or top Administrator at a smaller entity).

Advanced business and executive leadership skills to develop new or enhance existing clinical and operational strategies, business plans, policies and programs.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of current health care trends and practices.

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and business acumen.

Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Ability to identify, create and foster an organizational culture that is supportive of and builds upon the Trinity Health faith-based traditions and vision for a healing ministry.

Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to balance, manage and adapt to frequently changing work priorities, and be able to prioritize and balance the requirements of working with the System Office and Health Ministries (HMs).

Must be able to travel to the various Trinity Health sites as needed.
