Amazon Senior Manager, Software Development, A to Z in Dublin, Ireland

Description

As a Senior Manager of Software Development in the A to Z Experiences org, you will lead a team of passionate Software Development Managers, Technical Program Managers and Software Engineers to build reliable and highly scalable web and mobile solutions. This is a great opportunity to pave the path for a new generation of web and mobile experiences for Amazonians powered by data and generative AI, grow as a technology leader, and work with some really smart people. To succeed in the role, you must be passionate about both solving deep technical challenges and being a great people manager. You must care deeply about system availability and reliability, and understand what it means to own a mission-critical service that handles hundreds of millions of requests per second, with sub-millisecond latencies and eight 9s of availability.

In this role, you will be responsible for multiple software development teams and managers. These teams are responsible for developing front-end experiences for Amazon employees globally on web and mobile. We are an AWS-native engineering org, and make use of the latest technologies from AWS for web services, data management and AI - including, AWS Lambda, Fargate, DynamoDB, EC2, S3 and Bedrock AI.

Key job responsibilities

  • You will play a key role in driving the technical direction of A to Z Experiences. You should therefore be a key domain expert as well as an engineering manager to influence technology choices effectively.

  • You will build a team culture around technical excellence and strong delivery that aligns with Amazon's Leadership Principles. You will lead annual performance reviews for your org and coach your managers and direct reports to be the best they can be.

  • You will collaborate closely with product management, partners and cross functional teams to capture requirements, understand dependencies, define technical architecture, estimate resourcing requirements, define delivery timelines, and implement scalable solutions.

  • You you lead your team to implement and govern mechanisms for backlog prioritization, technical operations and program delivery.

We are the A to Z Experiences organization, responsible for building the web and mobile applications that help over 3 million Amazonians globally find the information they need and efficiently get their work done every day. Our products span intranet solutions like A to Z Web, people connectivity tools like Phone Tool, and productivity tools like Manager Hub. With A to Z Comms, we also power the deliver of your News Feed and smart notifications. Our technology solutions are powered by data and generative AI to deliver smart automation that minimizes friction and enables Amazonians to self-serve, so that they spend less time in product and more time delivering for Amazon's customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in engineering

  • Experience in engineering team management

  • Experience in planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams

  • Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications

  • BS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field

  • Experience building Android or iOS applications

  • Experience with creating & improving a variety of processes across product types & teams
