Global Planning Director
The Global Planning Director is a senior leader, a member of the Global Supply Chain Leadership team, responsible for driving the strategic direction, execution, and continuous improvement of the organization's global Contact Lens planning function. This role ensures seamless integration of demand, supply, and inventory planning processes to meet business objectives, optimize operational performance, and support profitable growth.
The role is instrumental in achieving key organizational goals, including maximizing customer satisfaction, optimizing revenue, reducing costs, enhancing supply chain agility, and enabling data-driven decision-making. The Global Planning Director ensures alignment across the value chain, effectively balancing supply and demand across the business unit.
Key Objectives for the Role:
Optimize Demand-Supply Balance: Achieve high levels of service and cost-efficiency through effective planning strategies across S&OE (Control Tower), S&OP and Long-Range Planning time horizons.
Improve Forecast Accuracy: Drive continuous improvement in forecasting processes to reduce errors and enhance responsiveness.
Enhance Inventory Turnover: Minimize excess inventory while ensuring availability to meet customer demands.
Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate alignment between planning and other key business functions.
Deliver Operational Excellence: Achieve industry-leading performance metrics in planning efficiency, cost control, and agility.
Team Leadership & Development: Ensure a high performing team with the skills and resources required to deliver success.
Develop and execute the global supply chain planning strategy to support corporate objectives such as revenue growth, cost optimization, working capital management and sustainability goals.
Design scalable, integrated planning processes that accommodate global market complexities and regional nuances (S&OP, Control Tower, LRP)
Development, ownership and successful delivery of an integrated Planning Maturity Roadmap to drive sustainable improvements across the end-to-end planning operating model.
Drive cross-functional collaboration to align the planning strategy with marketing, sales, operations, finance, and product development teams.
Support annual and strategic planning and direction setting for the Planning and Supply Chain function.
Demand Planning and Forecasting:
Build and oversee robust demand planning processes to create accurate, data-driven forecasts over short medium and long term time horizon
Integrate market insights, historical sales trends, customer behaviour, and competitive data into demand planning models.
Work with commercial teams to ensure forecasts account for product launches, promotions, and seasonal trends.
Improve forecast accuracy through continuous analysis and advanced predictive tools.
Supply Planning and Optimization:
Lead global supply planning efforts to ensure alignment with demand forecasts while optimizing production, procurement, and distribution strategies.
Oversee capacity planning to balance supply chain flexibility with cost-efficiency across global manufacturing and sourcing networks.
Mitigate supply disruptions through proactive risk management and scenario planning.
Inventory Management:
Define and implement global inventory strategies to optimize working capital, minimize excess inventory, and reduce stockouts.
Ensure alignment with business priorities, including service, product life cycles, and regional requirements.
Monitor inventory KPIs and develop corrective actions for underperforming areas.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead a diverse team of planners across regions, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Provide coaching and mentorship to ensure team members have the skills and resources needed for success.
Develop succession plans and invest in talent development to strengthen the global planning function.
Performance Metrics and Reporting:
Drive performance improvement through the establishment and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) for planning processes, such as forecast accuracy, fill rate, inventory turnover, and lead times.
Analyse data and trends to provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
Present regular updates on planning performance, risks, and improvement initiatives.
Technology and Continuous Improvement:
Oversee the modernization of Planning, including delivering a successful technology and process implementation, ensuring new tools and processes are sustained and driving improved outcomes.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase planning efficiency and reduce costs.
Qualifications & Training
Graduate or equivalent professional qualification e.g. A.P.I.C.S Certification
Career experience gained within the Medical or Pharmaceuticals industry in a senior leadership role with a proven track record in managing global or multi-regional planning operations.
Comprehensive knowledge of Planning/Scheduling/Inventory Management with a detailed understanding of all other Supply Chain functions
Experience with advanced planning systems.
Advanced problem-solving and data analysis capabilities, ability to use reporting tools (e.g. Power BI)
A strong emphasis on achievements with a proven track record on delivering objectives.
Focused on Customer Service and delivering Key Operational Measurements.
Strong communication and influencing skills.
Ability to act as a Team player, or independently, and with multiple activities.
Attention to detail and sense of urgency with high drive / enthusiasm.
Experienced working in a high-speed versatile environment.
