Intermountain Health Data Architect in Dover, Delaware

Job Description:

A Data Architect is responsible for designing relational and dimensional databases. The Data Architect applies relational theory and business process analysis to the development of logical data models and converts these logical models into physical database objects using data modeling CASE tools. The position develops and implements enterprise-level strategies and principles for the integration of enterprise information resources by defining corporate standards for data architecture, format, quality, and database design. The Data Architect is also responsible for the design, development, and implementation of ETL processes. The Senior Level Data Architect independently manages projects that are moderate to large in complexity. Also responsible for the mentoring of junior staff and the validating of the analysis, models, and data conversion and quality assurance processes of junior data architects. The Senior Data Architect provides input and leadership to help define best practices and standards in database design and business intelligence solutions. Works closely with leadership and customers at the corporate level of the organization to develop integrated and standardized business intelligence solutions.

Job Essentials

  1. Records detailed logical and physical data models in the information repository and coordinates the publication and maintenance of these models. Ensures appropriate integration of models and designs across the enterprise.

  2. Facilitates database design sessions and translates business requirements into logical and physical system designs for moderate to large complex projects.

  3. Leads the physical database design and implementation process for moderate to largely complex projects. Designs the optimal data presentation environment for the customer and works with various reporting tools.

  4. Coordinates with specific database performance monitoring and tuning tasks including the design of optimization and indexing schemes for moderate to large complex projects.

  5. Develops, tests and implements moderately complex ETL (extract, transformation, and load) routines.

  6. Documents business requirements and essential functionality requirements for in-house developments and the selection of third-party applications.

  7. Assists in leading the effort to ensure proper integration with existing Intermountain data, standards, and business processes.

  8. Provides leadership for moderate to large complex projects through development of project work plans, recommendations for optimal utilization of resources, milestone tracking, and coordination of project team efforts. Keeps management and customers informed of progress and exceptions.

  9. Leads the development and implementation of system backup, recovery, and support plans.

  10. Addresses the customer needs, manages expectations and ensures system-wide integration.

  11. Participates in the technical review process of designs completed by other designers and serves as a mentor to junior designers.

  12. Develops, documents, and delivers complex ad-hoc queries of production data as requested by business users. Consults with the business users that are performing queries. Works effectively with clients and staff to determine needs, specifications, feasibility, and project priorities.

  13. Maintains advanced understanding of industry application development methodologies, tools and techniques. Leads the definition of and subsequently follows enterprise and department-specific standards and methodologies.

  14. Leads projects and understands the differences between On-line Transaction Processing and Decision Support systems and how to appropriately support the requirements and environments for each.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

  • 3-5 years experience in database design, development, and business intelligence technologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL (structured query language).

  • Demonstrated high degree of flexibility and motivation in an aggressively changing environment.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to promote and advance business intelligence in collaboration with our customers.

  • Demonstrated project management skills, customer service skills, as well as demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and adher to data security and confidentiality protocols and procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare concepts including patient care and healtcare financing.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic information used in a healthcare environment and how the data is produced, consumed and transformed.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced data warehousing concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, and Delta Lake for real-time and batch data processing.

  • Proficiency in data streaming technologies such as AWS Kinesis or Azure Event Hubs.

  • Experience working with APIs to retrieve and integrate data from external systems.

  • Experience developing APIs to provide data as a product.

  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and PySpark for data engineering tasks.

  • Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and tools, including both traditional (e.g., SSIS, Informatica) and cloud-native solutions (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Databricks).

  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders and teams.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$53.58 - $84.36
