Air Mobility Command PEST CONTROLLER in Dover AFB, Delaware

Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Eagle Creek Golf Course on Dover Air Force Base. This position is considered Regular Part Time. You are guaranteed 20 hours; however, you could work up to 40 hours per week. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to perform pest control tasks for the Dover AFB Golf Course. Dusts, sprays, and fogs pesticides, herbicides and insecticides to control pests common to this geographical area on the Golf Course, such as ants, army worms, wasps, sod web worms, beetles, grubs, mole crickets, and other turf injuring or disease carrying insects found in buildings, warehouses, as well as a variety of lawn, bush, and tree insects. Sets out traps, pellets, and other various types of bait/traps to catch rodents, and muskrats. Applies restricted used pesticides, for weed and ground control around the Golf Course. Selects, mixes, and applies herbicides to the areas of foliage to kill or prevent the growth of noxious plant life and weeds. Selects, mixes, and applies solutions, emulsions, suspensions, dust, and baits of varying percentages from concentrates or technical grade materials. Performs arithmetic calculations to determine rate, use and quantity of pesticides, and to mix and apply pesticides using specific product label instructions to adhere to legally mandated requirements and to avoid misapplications which can present hazards to human health and environment. Exercises caution and consideration in disbursing pesticides in areas where contamination or damage to property is likely or frequented by personnel, domestic animals or desirable wildlife. Wears such protective devices as respirators, ear protectors, eye guards, goggles, face shields, coats, and overalls. Cleans/changes daily. This position will do pest control 55% of the year. Incumbent will be required to do other Golf Course related operations as needed, depending upon manpower available to accomplish missions of objectives. 45% of the yearly operation will be, but not limited to, operating equipment for cutting greens, cutting greens on weekends on a rotating basis, cutting tees, moving cups, cutting banks, verti-cutting, aerifying, gang mowers, weed whackers, tractors with different types of attachments or any other turf equipment which might be required to complete the mission or objective. Golf Course personnel will train operator on all equipment before operation of any equipment required to perform these duties. This individual will also be required to assist the irrigation specialist in repairs to the irrigation system. A limited ability to perform plumbing repairs is essential. Assist in performing operation check of the irrigation heads to establish times and operating modes are adequate. Performs operator maintenance on application equipment, such as changing nozzles, valves, and hoses. Lubricates motors, pumps, and agitators, using hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers. Maintains daily records of pesticides used and the pest control work accomplished, keeps records of inventory of chemicals and adjusts records accordingly as chemicals are used. Qualifying Experience: Experience which provided a knowledge of the methods employed in the location, recognition, control, and prevention of common pests to this area, ornamental and turf plant pests. Ability to perform arithmetic computations to properly mix and apply chemicals. Ability to use a variety of common hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers. Ability to distinguish different colors as spraying is done with marking colorant. Must be able to pass appropriate DE state certification tests required for applicators within 6 months. Physical requirement includes lifting up to 100 pounds. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be at least 18 years old. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use." Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Education This position does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
