Job Description Summary

The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Simulation Curriculum Coordinator to join our innovative team. Join us in our mission to provide high-quality simulation experiences that prepare our medical students for excellence in clinical practice. As a key member of our Simulation Center, you will collaborate with faculty and staff to create and implement engaging and effective simulation scenarios. This is a part-time position (0.6 FTE) requiring on-campus presence three days a week. Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Simulation Curriculum Coordinator will assist the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation in writing, preparing, and implementing simulation scenarios within the Simulation Center. Responsibilities include setting up encounters, tracking supplies, and organizing and overseeing day-to-day activities. This coordinator will also complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation.

POSITION DETAILS

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation, the Simulation Curriculum Coordinator shall perform the following duties:

Care of Simulation Center:

  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of weekly simulation encounters.

Weekly Coordination:

  • Work with the simulation team to develop and deliver simulation experiences for students.

  • Conduct weekly meetings with the simulation team.

  • Assist in the preparation for weekly simulation encounters including start-up of simulators and task trainers as needed for events related to the Simulation Center and the Performance Exam Suite (PES), ensuring they are operational and set up before each event.

Coordination with Primary Clinical Skills (PCS) Staff:

  • Coordinate with PCS staff to ensure the simulation encounter schedule includes required staffing such as debriefers, Standardized Patients (SP), and clinical skills educators.

  • Coordinate with the curriculum management team and PCS staff to ensure the learning management system (Canvas) is up to date for all simulation encounters, including dates, locations, and content descriptions of each simulation event.

Interprofessional Education for Collaborative Practice:

  • Assist the Assistant Dean of Clinical Simulation and other faculty and healthcare professionals in incorporating interprofessional education cases into simulation sessions. This prepares medical students to function collaboratively on health care teams by providing learning experiences in environments that permit interaction with students enrolled in other health professions degree programs or other health professionals.

  • Work with other departments in coordinating Simulation Center tours and visits.

Technical Proficiency and Competition Preparation:

  • Become proficient in simulation software.

  • Assist the simulation team in writing practice scenarios for simulation competitions and curriculum and help organize, train, and prepare for these events.

  • Assist the simulation team in preparing prebrief and debriefing PowerPoints and teaching aids.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs.

  • Strong presentation skills, motivation, and superior organizational skills to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.

  • Substantial interpersonal skills to connect with faculty, staff, and students at all organizational levels.

  • Excellent judgment and the ability to adapt professionally to the changing needs of a high-performing medical school.
