Job Description Summary

The director will provide leadership, direction and management oversight for Environmental Services and Laundry while being responsible for the overall environmental quality of all facilities within the hospital system. Provides staff leadership, makes sound business decisions in support of the hospital’s mission and vision. Manages the day-to-day operations of the department; ensures a consistently high level of cleanliness and appearance to patients, visitors and staff. Ensures that all hospital areas meet health and safety standards and regulatory requirements, enhancing patient care and maintaining a safe environment.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Leads, manages, and supervises the Environmental Services (EVS) and Laundry teams, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Creates and implements employee development plans.

  • Develops strategic plans and policies in alignment with the organization’s mission and key performance indicators.

  • Fosters a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, professional growth, high morale and employee engagement.

  • Directs business operations, negotiates contracts and prepares and administers annual budgets controlling expenses and optimizing resource allocation.

  • Monitors and reviews employee productivity, staff development, and program implementation for patient satisfaction, efficiency, effectiveness, work priorities, and compliance. Develops and implements strategies to improve outcomes.

  • Stays up to date on industry standards and best practices to continually enhance EVS operations. Implements and monitors quality assurance programs to maintain and improve environmental standards.

  • Manages complex interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships to assure collaboration and effective/efficient operations.

  • Conducts regular inspections of the facility to ensure it meets the environmental quality standards.

  • Ensures compliance with accrediting agency standards and local, state, and federal regulations related to health and safety, waste disposal, and environmental standards.

  • Performs other duties as requested by primary manager that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety.

    Qualifications

Minimum Education Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Education Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience Required

  • Minimum of 3 years progressive management experience.

Minimum Experience Preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive management experience.

Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Proven success in leading teams to exceptional outcomes in a complex, fast-paced environment while providing outstanding service.

  • Thorough knowledge: Verbal and written communication skills with ability to prepare and deliver upper management level presentations.

  • Thorough knowledge: Principles and practices of effective management and supervision.

  • General knowledge: DNV, Federal, State and local laws, regulations, and codes pertaining to biohazardous and infectious, waste management.

  • General knowledge: Waste management and infection control in hospital environment.

  • General knowledge: Budget development and administration.
