Job Posting Summary

The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates for a 9-month faculty position as the Clinical Lab Instructor in Anatomy & Physiology in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University beginning September 1, 2025. This position primarily focuses on teaching excellence in the undergraduate Anatomy & Physiology laboratories. We seek faculty who prioritize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals, welcome opportunities to engage with diverse students and colleagues, who incorporate inclusive pedagogical practices into their lab teaching models, and who are committed to ensuring that all students succeed. This is an opportunity to join the School of Health and Natural Sciences with undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), veterinary technology, and 4 accredited graduate health professional programs, including, (communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies).

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate laboratory teaching, impactful service in the University community, and mentoring undergraduate students. Preference will be given to candidates who have innovative approaches to promoting student success in areas of:

  • Project-based learning (PBL) experiences

  • Curriculum development

  • Classroom inclusivity and high-impact pedagogical practices

  • Experience with Anatomage Tables

  • Experience mentoring peer tutors in labs

    Primary work responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching multiple laboratory sections per year of Anatomy & Physiology laboratory courses using an innovative curriculum incorporating Anatomage Tables

  • Working to enhance the curriculum in collaboration with the course coordinators, including, assisting with the design and delivery of curricular materials, helping to coordinate the lab curriculum with the lecture course, and supporting the incorporation of data collection tools

  • Ensuring labs are equipped with all necessary supplies and materials that promote safe and compliant use of the labs

  • Fulfilling instructor responsibilities of grading, attendance tracking and reporting, submitting academic updates for students, collecting assessment data, and meeting with students outside of class

  • Attending training sessions and teaching workshops

  • Collaborating with the teaching assistants and laboratory staff to ensure efficient set-up and clean-up of laboratories after each session

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology or related field with a focus on human anatomy and physiology

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching laboratory courses in anatomy and physiology to a diverse population of undergraduate pre-professional health science/healthcare students

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Strong technological skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment as well as the willingness to commit to following the pedagogical protocols outlined by the Health Science Department

  • Teach at Mercy’s Westchester campus (Dobbs Ferry) and Bronx campus (Eastern Bronx) as needed

  • Actively participate in university, school, and department meetings

  • Able to travel between Westchester (Dobbs Ferry) and Bronx (Eastern Bronx) campuses

  • Complete other duties as assigned

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working collaboratively with faculty from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds

  • Demonstrated experience in integrating innovative approaches to promote student success and building an inclusive community in the laboratory

  • Previous experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), (Blackboard) and teleconferencing software, (Blackboard Collaborate and Zoom)

    Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in biology or related field

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
