Job Description: Emergency Services Dispatcher

Overview: The Emergency Services Dispatcher performs a comprehensive range of radio and telephone operational duties in a 24-hour facility. This role involves processing and prioritizing incoming calls for police, fire, and EMS assistance, ensuring efficient and effective emergency response.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency services.

  • Determine the nature and location of emergencies, prioritize calls, and dispatch appropriate emergency units.

  • Maintain contact with all units on assignment, track status, and location of police and fire units.

  • Answer non-emergency calls for assistance and monitor direct emergency alarms.

  • Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones, and computer systems.

  • Monitor several complex public safety radio frequencies.

  • Enter, update, and retrieve information from various computer systems.

  • Follow established procedures for dispatching police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units.

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively via phone and radio.

  • Use sound judgment to make decisions under stress and follow basic instructions accurately.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English with the ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively.

  • Proficient in computer operations, word processing, data retrieval, and data entry.

  • Capable of multi-tasking with radio and phone communications.

  • Must obtain a Token Card and restricted Military Email.

  • Complete the DOD Telecommunicator I & II, HAZMAT Awareness, and CPR courses, including practical performance evaluations within 90 days of selection.

  • Complete FEMA courses IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within six months, if not already certified.

  • Prior experience in a Fire and Emergency Services dispatch or other emergency dispatch role is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess a passport book (not passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity and at least 4 blank visa/stamp pages.

  • Must possess a driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity.
