BorgWarner Inc. Area Manager-PC&L in Dixon, Illinois

This position is ultimately responsible for the areas of MRP (Customer service, production scheduling, logistics and materials planning) and Warehouse, Shipping and Receiving.

Responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for inventory and warehouse management in support of Dixon’s manufacturing plan and with a continuous improvement mindset.

Ensures that effective and cost-efficient shipping, receiving and warehousing systems are in place to support proper materials flow, minimize fork truck usage and reduce stock in production lines.

Develops, motivates and supervises the team, ensuring that world-class service and performance is provided in support of customer requirements, production capacities and supplier strategies.

Responsible to keep and improve SAP data integrity.

Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the strategy for PFEP (Plan For Every Part)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Area Manager-Production Control and Logistics is a diverse position with following areas of accountability.

  • Assure that the MRP team maintains a close and valuable communication with customers

  • Establish a meaningful working relationship with the production lines to serve our customer needs while helping to achieve our internal goals for labor efficiency, scrap and overtime in our production lines

  • Lead our forecast and SIOP processes for sales, inventory and production capacity

  • Define the best strategy for logistics – freight, tariff, customs, premium freight – to reduce inventory and minimize cost

  • Supervise freight damage claims with logistics suppliers and collaborate with supplier quality team to keep hold area clean of material

  • Ensure 100% customer on time delivery according to BTS and schedule

  • Maintain customer scorecards at 100% for delivery metrics; supervise disputes with customers and achieve resolution

  • Define and achieve our inventory targets for inventory turns, shrinkage and inventory value

  • Assure that we achieve our goal of minimum 98% of accuracy on cycle counts; maintain and improve our processes to this end

  • Define strategies for delivery of materials to the point of use in the production lines, minimizing the stock of RM needed and the need for production associates to retrieve material.

  • Define and improve tugger routes, kanban signals and supermarkets.

  • Lead activities for physical inventory.

  • Be the point of escalation to clear roadblocks for their areas of responsibility.

  • Train and mentor team members on A3 projects

  • Develop a strong team and a succession plan; identify training needs and development opportunities for team members.

  • Actively participate and supervise safety activities, i.e. BBO conversations, safety audits, safety 8D’s, safety stoplights, etc.

  • Ensure that team members participate timely on all training activities – ethics, cybersecurity, safety, etc.

  • Responsible for driving cost reductions within area by collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Consistently applies and executes policies and organizational standards.

  • Manage performance reviews and time keeping for area managed.

  • Maintain quality standards by following proper inspection procedures.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university

    KEY JOB SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in customer service, production control and logistics in a manufacturing environment. Automotive experience is preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years of supervision of hourly and salaried employees in a manufacturing environment is required.

  • A strong understanding of manufacturing systems, with an emphasis on production planning and inventory control systems. Experience with EDI transmission is preferred

  • Strong experience on logistics, warehouse management

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP in material planning and warehouse modules. A certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) is preferred.

  • Attention to detail, strong written & verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse number of internal and external contacts is important.

  • This individual must have the ability to work with minimal supervision, possess good human relation skills, be able to handle stressful situations and make decisions under pressure.

  • Strong Motivation and team building abilities are required.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products and data base management are needed.

  • Strong problem solving skills are critical.
