Summary This position is located in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Global Media, Foreign Press Center Office. Carries out the Secretary’s mandate to help foreign audiences understand and build support for American foreign policies. Responsibilities Serves as the primary contact for foreign journalists and media representatives coming from one or more assigned countries or geographic regions. Provides foreign journalists and media representatives with information and guidance, including that provided by the Department of State Press Spokesperson or other U.S. government sources, Reviews, interprets, and assesses foreign policy literature and surveys to keep abreast of audience reactions, as well as issues, trends, and developments affecting the dissemination of U.S. foreign policy information to foreign audiences Plans, coordinates, and facilitates activities intended to provide foreign journalists with direct access to U.S. government civilian and military, commercial, academic, religious, and other kinds of activities. Represents the Foreign Press Center at meetings and conferences related to the dissemination of information to foreign media. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F. Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: -Experience with public affairs an press relations principles and concepts. -Experience analyzing foreign policy and making recommendation to senior officials that result in effectively promoting U.S. foreign policy. -Experience conveying complex information to divers audience (e.g. media, public, Department officials).
