Description
Under general supervision and in accordance with departmental rules, plans, and specifications supervises a large crew or a number of small crews engaged in constructing, laying, repairing, widening, or maintaining all types of pavements or sidewalks, and is responsible for efficient utilization of staff and equipment. Work is subject to inspection at irregular intervals.
Examples of Duties
Supervises a large crew or several small crews engaged in street or sidewalk maintenance or construction.
Reviews plans and specification for each job, or where no plans exist, inspects work location, estimates quantities of labor and materials required, plans methods of doing work and number of workers and equipment required.
Schedules the work with supervisor to secure most efficient use of workers and equipment.
Assigns tasks to individuals, watches the progress of the work, and sees that work is done according to plan and to established standard of quality and workmanship, on each job.
Helps workers solve problems and keeps operation on a normal schedule.
Observes arrival of materials and notifies source if timing is not right.
Ensures that equipment arrives on scheduled and is kept in operation.
Ensures that workers report on time, that sufficient tools and supplies are on the job and accounted for at all times.
Determines whether to allow employees time off for personal reasons, takes indicated disciplinary actions.
Administers first aid in event of injury, and sees that proper safety measures are followed.
Evaluates performance of workers, materials, and equipment.
Report on work progress, problems, and evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation or G.E.D.
Two years experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of pavements, footing, walls, curbs, and sidewalks, preferably including one year of supervisory experience in this work.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
