As a Government Affairs & Strategy Intern, you'll work closely with full-time team members to make an impact on our local Detroit strategy, civic and community affairs, and government affairs efforts. This is an opportunity to use your communication and management skills to contribute to the prosperity of the City of Detroit and Family of Companies.

About the Role

  • Assist the Government Affairs team with a variety of tasks such as summarizing Detroit city council and economic development activities, proposed policy and other local matters.

  • Attend government hearings and take detailed notes

  • Draft internal emails with political and policy updates on issues impacting the state of Michigan, the city of Detroit, and the economic development community.

  • Stay on top of policy issues that could affect the Family of Companies

  • Research policy issues and public officials

  • Contact individuals that work with local, state and federal government relations

  • Learn about our business by attending meetings, huddles and trainings

  • Share creative ideas that will help improve our business

  • Deliver reports, analyze metrics and summarize information to help drive our team forward

  • Assist in creating materials and/or presentations for meetings

  • Take notes during meetings and provide recaps

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • Interest in politics, government, law, and commercial real estate

  • Prior experience working with student body or government

  • Prior experience conducting legal & policy research

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Ability to communicate with team members and outside contacts of all levels

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once

  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Juris Doctorate candidate at an accredited university

  • Prior experience working in commercial real estate finance, development, and management
