Position Purpose:

A Research Assistant position will be created to serve as a technical liaison between our home unit,Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (IEHS) /Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES), and the CURES P30 Center as well as other environmental team-science initiatives that are being spear-headed by IEHS/CURES.

The successful IEHS/CURES Research Assistant candidate will demonstrate specialized skills in environmental health science technology including proficiency with data visualization approaches, such as geographic information system (GIS) technology, competence in the management of complex dataset analysis, and familiarity with integrative data sharing and biostatics platforms that are relevant to environmental research. The successful candidate will also display the ability to communicate and work effectively across academic disciplines to achieve research progress and program integration. IEHS/CURES is committed to the growth and development of leading-edge environmental health sciences research programs on the Wayne State University campus.

Essential Functions:

Demonstrate specialized skills in environmental health science technology including proficiency with data visualization approaches, such as geographic information system (GIS) technology, competence in the management of complex dataset analysis, and familiarity with integrative data sharing and biostatics platforms that are relevant to environmental research.

Perform the day-to-day activities of the Transitional Research Support Core (TRSC) including scheduling and leading regular group meetings, attending CURES events and interfacing with the membership and partners to advance center goals.

Serve as a technical liaison between our home unit, IEHS/CURES, and the CURES P30 Center as well as other environmental team-science initiatives that are being spear-headed by IEHS/CURES.

Work with environmental health science colleagues to create and maintain an operational geospatial analysis framework for the CURES TRSC.

Apply bio statistical tools and algorithms to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of CURES research and support programs.

Work with mentors to create survey instruments, assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, perform literature searches, and publish the results of research and innovative findings related to TRSC activities.

Expand CURES capacity to link human health data to environmental exposure data by bridging this knowledge gap with our public health colleagues at the Henry Ford Health System.

Act as a liaison between the CURES research and lay community and as a CURES representative within the P30 network, including attending the NIEHS annual conference and other workshops, webinars, etc.

Attend the annual national Environmental Health Sciences Core Center (EHSCC) meeting hosted by National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and communicate regularly with NIEHS program officers and counterpart EHSCC colleagues as directed on behalf of CURES.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree

BS in Geospatial Information Science preferred or an MPH

Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Experience working independently and with a team are essential for this role

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated experience in environmental health science technology including proficiency with data visualization approaches, such as geographic information system (GIS) technology.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
