GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

RECREATION DIVISION

PUBLIC SERVICE ATTENDANT

Under general supervision, as a lead person, to perform work involving contacts with the public and minor clerical and/or manual tasks in connection with the operation of a municipal commercial public service enterprise or similar.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities ( may perform other duties as assigned )

  • At a bathhouse or swimming pool, sells admission tickets; gives out and collects locker keys.

  • Checks clothing and valuables.

  • Sells merchandise, such as bathing caps.

  • Maintains order.

  • Directs patrons to lockers.

  • Cleans locker rooms and flush pool decks.

  • Prepares reports and accounts for cash taken in.

  • Makes inspection trips at regular intervals.

  • Directs visitors to the various exhibits, galleries or staff offices.

  • Sells catalogs and programs of exhibits.

  • Collects fees.

  • Maintains premises in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Keeps crowds orderly.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications (required):

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Two (2) years of experience in public service or other activities involving contacts with the public

  • One (1) year of which has been in a supervisory capacity.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:

  • If certifies to a position involving the handling of food, must be eligible and able to obtain a valid food handler’s card.

    Equivalency

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

  • Evaluation of Training, Experience & Personal Qualifications: 30%

  • Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P: 100%

Additional points may be awarded for:

  • Veteran Points: 0 – 15 points

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

  • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

  • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

  • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
