Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs routine and moderately complex clerical support duties.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (may perform other duties as assigned)
Types from rough draft correspondence and reports.
Composes routine and standardized correspondence.
Transcribes and records case histories, investigations and departmental communications.
Proofreads and checks work for accuracy.
Assembles data and information and enters into defined tabular format.
Performs routine filing of correspondence, records and reports.
Assists in maintaining records in databases, spreadsheets and logs.
Prepares and checks papers and records.
Analyzes, classifies and files material of a routine nature.
Screens telephone calls and visitors and assists with general inquiries.
Operates computers, copying machines and other office equipment.
Sorts and distributes mail.
Schedules work for, trains and instructs new clerical employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
High School graduation or GED with courses in typing, keyboarding, word processing, and office management or business-related subjects.
One (1) year of experience in typing and performing general office work.
Qualifications (preferred):
- Completion of courses in typing and word processing preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of office work, terms and equipment.
Knowledge of standard document formats and English usage in business correspondence.
Knowledge of standard office database and spreadsheet software.
Skill in typing with speed and accuracy.
Skill in filing and file maintenance.
Skill in recording and transcribing with speed and accuracy.
Skill in use of personal computers and common office software.
Skill in performing arithmetic computations with accuracy
Ability to draft original non-routine documents.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with tact and diplomacy.
Ability to preserve confidentiality and discern what is confidential.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
