Essential functions (job duties):

Full time coordinator position will play a pivotal role in leading the Michigander Scholars program funded by Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). This program is designed to support students pursuing careers in semiconductors, mobility, and electric vehicles and help retain talent in these fields in Michigan. Key responsibilities include:

Student Advising: Provide guidance to students on career pathways in semiconductors, mobility, and electric vehicles. Support students with academic advising, including course selection, in collaboration with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department.

Program Administration:

Manage scholars' paperwork and maintain accurate records.

Coordinate with the Financial Aid Office to ensure timely scholarship disbursements.

Coordinate with MEDC to prepare student records and attend progress meetings.

Event Coordination:

Plan and organize networking and career development events.

Develop initiatives to foster industry engagement and professional growth for scholars.

Industry Outreach: Build and maintain relationships with industry partners to enhance career opportunities and establish internship and employment pipelines.

Program Expansion: Lead efforts to grow the Michigander Scholars Program at Wayne State University, focusing on first- and second-year engineering students. Develop strategies to prepare these students for successful careers in semiconductors, mobility, and electric vehicles.

This role is integral to the success of the Michigander Scholars Program and requires a proactive, student-focused individual with strong organizational and communication skills. The Coordinator will serve as a vital connection between students, faculty, university resources, and industry partners, fostering an environment that supports student success and career readiness.

Qualifications:

Education Bachelor's degree

Bachelor's degree is required from an accredited institution in a related field (e.g., communications, business administration, education, engineering, or science)

Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

At least 2 years of experience in a management or advising role, preferably in a research or academic setting.

Experience with project management, including the ability to develop and monitor timelines and deliverables.

Existing knowledge of engineering curricula is a plus.

Existing industry networking connections are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to communicate effectively with industry partners, faculty members, students, and staff. Effectively present information verbally or in writing, for individuals, small or large groups, with strong proof-reading skills.

Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Completes projects and tasks on time.

Knowledge of semiconductor industry and workforce training is a plus.

Strong project management skills. Able to shift priorities and multi-task on various projects, accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects, realistically estimate time and resource requirements on projects.

Demonstrated attention to detail with ability to apply analytical and logical thinking to the process of gathering and analyzing information. Able to propose and evaluate alternative solutions to achieve organizational goals. Able to analyze large volume of data and summarize results in informal and formal reports and presentations.

Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; anticipate the implications and consequences of situations and take appropriate action to be prepared for possible contingencies.

Possess awareness of multicultural issues and principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism; serve and engage others in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and digital project management tools. Ability to learn and adapt to using new and changing digital technology platforms and online resources.
