Essential functions (job duties):
The School of Social Work at Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, Michigan is committed to community engaged practice within our dynamic urban setting. We invite applications for three faculty positions from outstanding candidates with focused research and exemplary teaching who add to the diverse, collaborative, and supportive environment within the SSW.
There are three open rank tenure stream positions.Evidence of a beginning research trajectory, potential for external funding and teaching experience is desirable at the tenure-track Assistant Professor rank. Appointment at the ranks of Associate or Full Professor with tenure require a strong record of research, external funding, publications, teaching and service.
Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in social work or related field (e.g., psychology, criminal justice, sociology)
An earned MSW is preferred
A record of scholarly publications
A beginning track record of external funding preferred
Training/experience in prevention or intervention research and evaluation preferred
Strong analytic ability (quantitative/qualitative analysis)
Experience in primary data collection preferred
Commitment to and ability to teach within a social work curriculum
Interpersonal skills that facilitate communication and connection in diverse communities and disciplines
Teaching experience and expertise in BSW or MSW curricular areas
Content and research expertise should emphasize child welfare with a focus on maltreatment prevention, system responses to abuse and neglect, child welfare practice and policy, and/or workforce development
The School of Social Work is committed to social justice and social work practice. The ideal tenure stream candidates will be involved in research consistent with this philosophy and capitalize on the SSW established and emerging connections to academic units, service agencies, communities and government.
