This position is responsible for monitoring the Company's compliance with tax laws and regulations. Manages the timely completion and filing of various legal entity Federal tax provisions and tax returns, detail reviews the Federal consolidated tax return and may detail review various State income and indirect tax returns. Informs tax management on new tax laws, tax updates and their potential impact. Assists with corporate tax audits and financial statement audits. Recommends and implements methods and procedures to minimize tax liability or promote tax savings. Manages the activities and functions of one or more Senior Tax Accountants as well as of area or section including but not limited to planning, organization, problem solving, staff development and communication. Close interaction with personnel and management within or outside department in performing duties and assignments. Performs other functions as assigned by management. * Monitors the company's compliance with tax laws and regulations. * Has responsibility for delegating preparation of and detail reviewing legal entity Federal tax provisions (ASC 740), the consolidated Federal tax return, separate legal entity Federal tax returns, State income tax returns, indirect tax returns (including, but not limited to, Sales and Use Tax, Michigan Premium Tax) and other related tax issues and matters. * Provides support to various departments concerning tax matters. * Performs monthly/quarterly accounting duties such as account reconciliations and journal entries. * Provides support for tax audits and financial statement audits. * Partners with subsidiaries in managing tax issues. * Identify tax saving ideas while minimizing exposure to the Company. * Reviews tax legislation and regulatory notices and informs management about changes and tax impacts. * Manages information flow between departments that provide information for tax compliance to ensure useful and efficient data is exchanged in a timely manner. * Develops, recommends, and maintains administrative and operational procedures of the section or area. * Leads or works closely with teams to complete assigned projects. * Assists management in planning and conducting department and divisional goals. * Performs other assignments or functions as required by management. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance or related field required. * Advanced Technical Degree (MST, JD, MBA-Tax) preferred. * Four (4) to six (6) years' experience in a corporate tax environment where tax research, ASC 740, and tax compliance are a regular part of the job function. * At least two years' experience of corporate taxation in a health care industry preferred. * At least two years' experience of Statutory financial reporting preferred. * Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred. * Knowledge of federal, state, local, and corporate and partnership tax laws. * Proficient with Thomson Reuters OneSource Tax Provision & Income Tax software. * Ability to work under little or no supervision or in a team environment and with multiple priorities and deadlines. * Proficient in current industry standard PC applications and systems (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). * Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to communicate with all levels of management. * Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.
