Essential functions (job duties):
· This role reports to the Associate Dean and a dotted line to the Dean and works with all Mike Ilitch School of Business (MISB) faculty. This role supports and assists the MISB Dean in efforts to strategize about education technology related expenditures, support optimizing new and existing online program class designs in a holistic fashion across programs, increase student enrollment and retention as well as to monitor standards for Assurance of Learning (AOL); all of which are critical for the school's accreditation American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC). This position develops and oversees all instructional design and assessment data collection aspects of the MISB (curriculum, room technology, online learning, and accreditation learning goals). The individual will work directly with the Accreditation and Compliance Manager and relevant faculty senate committees to make sure assessment guidelines are followed. This position is also responsible for taking a key role in assisting in the onboarding of all faculty (full and part-time) along with the accreditation and compliance manager to ensure all faculty understand MISB expectations on university-approved course management software, assessment expectations, and accreditation software. Acting as the Instructional Designer, the individual will support all technology, innovation, and data acquisition that assist in student learning and success.
Instructional Design:
· Serve as the thought leader, key contact person and knowledge source for all instructional design issues
· Assist all faculty in creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content
· Assist faculty with using the technology to upload and convert lectures as needed for faculty for on-line distribution.
· Assist faculty with developing and implementing confidential mid-semester course evaluations / student feedback.
· Provide advice and counsel to faculty on all key instructional design issues including assessment methods, testing strategies, equitable & inclusive course environment etc.
· Provide confidential course observations and formative teaching development consultations with instructors on issues related to multi-culturally inclusive course design, course design for the diversity among learners, effective practices and assessment techniques.
· Dial in to synchronous classes when assisting faculty members so that they might facilitate and support faculty instruction.
· Serve on the MISB Online Teaching Subcommittee.
· Make sure all course management and online courses are accessible to the faculty, and that the faculty have updated their materials.
· Conduct needs analysis to effectively deliver instruction in online, hybrid and face-to-face courses
· Develop, implement, and assess instructional development programs and activities for PHD graduate students related to teaching effectiveness. Work closely with their department and college-based graduate teaching assistant support programs.
· Coordinate and develop faculty workshops related to enhancing teaching and assessment, including the Quality Matters program
· Attend and engage with the MISB Faculty Senate Teaching Committee and assist in Developing, implementing and assessing a full range of activities, such as workshops, brown bags and training options, programs, consultations, forums, faculty learning communities, and research and evaluation projects.
· Consult with instructors, departments, and schools/colleges across campus on the assessment of teaching and learning, accessibility, cultural inclusiveness and other issues related to face to face, hybrid and online teaching and learning environments.
· Serve on and represent MISB on the appropriate university committees related to teaching, learning and assessment such as the University's Accessibility Committee.
· Develop collaborations and partnerships with OTL and other instructional designers across campus to learn and provide information to improve school instruction
· Be an active member, attend and collaborate with national and international professionals in accrediting and educational associations (such as AACSB and Educause)
Education Technology:
Serve as the key contact person and knowledge source for the effective use of instructional tools, equipment and software needed to meet the strategic needs of Mike Ilitch School of Business
· Provide leadership, supervise, train, mentor and assist in the establishment of priorities for graduate and undergraduate student assistants on technology who assist C&IT and faculty in MISB classrooms
· Provide insight, knowledge and support to senior leadership for decision making on all multi-media classrooms and emerging technology for use, including live and on-demand streaming.
· Continuously update, acquire and apply new technology skills to instructional design practice.
· Develop strategies and solutions to best disseminate information needed to assist faculty and senior leadership to optimize the educational technology needs of the school
· Work from a pedagogical focus to provide evidence-based learning strategies, accessibility, inclusion, and expert use of educational technologies
Assessment:
Serve as a contact person in the process of measuring effective learning strategies to ensure and improve student learning
· Work with the Accreditation and compliance manager to create, monitor, and ensure standards for assurance of learning are followed for AACSB and HLC accreditation.
· Coordinate and develop faculty workshops related to learning and enhancing assessment techniques.
· Work with UEPC/ GEPC Course Coordinator to provide insight on student learning and assessment.
· Attend AACSB/ HLC instructional design-related conferences and workshops to gain insight and keep the school updated and informed on best practices related to student learning.
Mike Ilitch School of Business Support:
Work with Internal Audit to assist with MISB Continuity Plan on Instruction.
Assist with recording of Faculty Senate meetings and other School Meetings
· Attend Dean’s Executive Team meeting to share issues related to instructional design, assessment, instructional technology
· Maintain Administrative Information sites on onboarding for both PTF and FTF.
· Assist faculty and other administers with school data acquisition such as elections, nominations, and student success programs such as 25 under 25
· Assist department chairs and faculty with internship data. (Canvas sites, collection of supervisor information, sending out intern evaluations).
· Contributor to the Faculty Handbook.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology or related technical degree, master’s degree preferred.
Experience
Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)
A minimum of 5 years in a higher education environment in Instructional Learning is required. Documented experience with instructional technology and design. Experience in conducting individual teaching development consultations and facilitating change in others. Faculty development experience with multiple audiences (e.g., tenure track, non-tenure track, part-time instructors, and graduate teaching assistants). Experience in university assessment desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to consult effectively with faculty and administrators. Capable of communicating effectively in visual, oral, and written form and can deliver engaging presentations. Capable of presenting technical knowledge to both technical and non-technical audiences.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Understand and can help others apply formative and summative models of assessment to faculty development outcome goals (e.g., programs and workshops, course and curriculum design, student learning, and related instructor professional development activities).
COMPUTING SKILLS KNOWLEDGE: Expertise in instructional technologies related to learning and course management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, web conferencing (zoom, MS Teams), student response systems, and multimedia).
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of instructional assessment, broadly defined, including assessment for accreditation, course design, and student learning through the integration of classroom assessment into the instructional environment, program and department development, and institutional initiatives.
TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS: knowledge of time management techniques to manage distractions to achieve targets and timelines.
TEAMWORK SKILLS: Knowledge and capability of working effectively in teams with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Possess the ability to collaborate and engage all faculty and departments to meet instructional design objectives. Capable of maintaining good working relations.
