Position Summary

Step into a challenging and multifaceted role as the Social Media Manager and Brand Coordinator for the College of Osteopathic Medicine. This exciting position will allow you to engage with both internal and external audiences, amplifying the college's mission and impact.

As a vital member of the MSUCOM Communications and Marketing team, you will play a key role in shaping our digital presence. Your responsibilities will encompass managing social media, crafting compelling designs, and creating engaging written content. Team members may be called upon for occasional weekend and evening assignments, allowing for flexibility and creativity in your approach.

With three vibrant locations—on the MSU campus in East Lansing, at the Detroit Medical Center, and the Macomb University Center—this hybrid role offers the opportunity to work both in-office in East Lansing or Southeast Michigan, and remotely, ensuring a balance that suits your lifestyle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategize and Execute: Plan, manage, and bring to life the college’s dynamic social media strategy, including content creation, audience engagement, social listening, and data-driven recommendations, while developing social media editorial calendars.

  • Craft Engaging Content: Create intentional and captivating content for social media platforms, leveraging user-generated content (UGC) and collaborating with partners across the college to inspire our community.

  • Manage Digital Assets: Oversee the college's digital presence on platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

  • Produce Quality Writing: Write articles and various assets for the college and its departments, sharing our story with the world.

  • Create Marketing Materials: Develop impactful marketing content that showcases the college’s strengths and initiatives.

  • Collaborate and Connect: Work closely with team members to foster a collaborative spirit and drive collective success.

  • Deliver Service Excellence: Engage with the community through courteous, informed, and professional interactions, ensuring that every touchpoint reflects our commitment to excellence.

  • Embrace Flexibility: Take on additional duties as assigned, adapting to the evolving needs of the college.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, or a related field, demonstrating a solid foundation in these areas. At least five years of relevant experience in communications and marketing, showcasing expertise in social media planning, implementation, and analysis; writing, editing, and production for publications; or experience in news, broadcasting, and print media. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ensuring smooth collaboration and productivity in a dynamic environment.

Experience in search engine marketing (SEM) campaigns and search engine optimization (SEO), along with a strong grasp of social media strategy and analysis. A collaborative team player with a positive attitude, capable of managing multiple assignments and projects with confidence. Ability to translate trends, technologies, and metrics into accessible language, making complex concepts understandable for diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal skills, with a knack for developing and nurturing relationships across all levels of the organization. Flexibility to be a proactive team member who adds value and supports strategic initiatives across programs and teams. A self-starter who is independent yet knows when to seek guidance, demonstrating a balanced approach to problem-solving. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, enabling effective communication and storytelling.
