Honeywell Principal R&D Engineer/Scientist in Des Plaines, Illinois

There is an immediate opening for a Design and Construction Group Manager position in the Engineering, Design and Construction Group within our Research and Development Facility. This position plays a key role in UOP’s technology delivery process by insuring the on time and on budget delivery of new and revamped pilot plant construction projects. These pilot plants also need to meet all the agreed upon functional requirements. The Design and Construction Manager is accountable for the development, training, and performance of the Design and Construction group staff, and for the group’s portfolio of projects which exceed $9MM annually. This position has responsibilities at both the Riverside and Des Plaines sites.

Responsibilities:

· Responsible for the HS&E performance of the Design and Construction Group ensuring that all HS&E policies and procedures are followed and that pilot plants are designed and constructed according to best engineering practices and can be operated in a safe manner and in adherence to environmental policies and regulations.

· Accountable for providing recommendations for the setting of context for the accountabilities of the Design and Construction Group and for recommending strategic direction of activities.

· Accountable for the design and construction of new and/or revamped pilot plants for Research and Development activities and for providing resource planning and budgeting for capital projects.

· Accountable for leading Lean Six Sigma efforts to improve the design and construction work processes in order to reduce the time and costs associated with the design and construction of pilot plants.

· Accountable for providing resources and supporting cross-functional teams involved in the design and construction of pilot plants.

· Accountable for recommending alternatives to the in-house design and construction of pilot plants and laboratory equipment.

Basic Qualifications

· BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar technical degree

· A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience

Additional Qualifications

· Strong mechanical aptitude

· Ability to work in a team environment

· Good knowledge of machining, welding, electrical and construction techniques and practices

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work well in a team environment

· Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred.
