Microbiology Lab Technician

Job Description

The Microbiology Lab Technician will be responsible for entering sample data into the eLIMS system accurately and promptly. The technician will perform laboratory testing on all incoming samples, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timely results. The role also involves maintaining a clean and sanitized work area, homogenizing and aseptically splitting samples, enriching samples with media, incubating samples using the LIMS system, and managing sample storage.

Responsibilities

• Enter sample data into the eLIMS system accurately and promptly.

• Perform laboratory testing on incoming samples with accuracy and efficiency.

• Ensure sample turnaround time goals are met or exceeded.

• Maintain a clean, sanitized, and tidy work area.

• Homogenize and aseptically split samples into bags.

• Enrich samples with media and incubate them using the LIMS system.

• Check samples into retain using storage management.

• Identify non-conformances and out-of-specification samples.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

• Proficiency in biology, microbiology, and laboratory techniques.

• Experience with aseptic and sterile techniques.

• Knowledge of media enrichment and sample plating.

• Strong quality assurance skills.

Qualifications

• AAS or BA degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced lab environment.

Work Environment

SHIFTS:

• Monday to Friday from 12 PM to 8:30 PM

• Tuesday to Saturday from 2 PM to 10:30 PM

• Monday to Friday from 10 PM to 6:30 AM

The job is in a repetitive lab environment, primarily involving microbiological testing of products like pet food, ingredients, nutraceuticals, and food dyes.

This role can require 1-2 hours of overtime per day, with a potential workweek of 45-50 hours.

Candidates must be comfortable with lab-appropriate attire, including long pants, closed-toe shoes, lab coat, and safety glasses.

The role involves standing for long periods and using hands extensively.

The pay range for this position is $18.38 - $18.38
