Description:
Lead lactation specialist in the NICU.
This person will help with the lactation specialist scheduling, entering data in spreadsheets, ordering supplies, updating policy as well as see patients
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
East Tower, 4th Floor
This dedicated unit consists of 62 beds in 44 private patient rooms and is located in the East Tower. Credentialed as a Level III NICU, practicing highly technical, state-of-the-art care for high-risk premature babies and full-term newborns in need of specialized care. Nurses work with neonatologists, cardiologists, surgeons and other medical specialties as a team approach to care and provide the best care for infants.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assists lactation consultants as a clinical/educational resource to patient care activities/teaching programs within the area of defined specialization. Supports patient/family/unit needs of diverse ages.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assists lactation consultant in identifying educational needs, develops program(s) to meet those needs, and in implementation of the program(s).
· Collaborates with lactation consultants in evaluating programs and modifying as indicated.
· Works with lactation consultants using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment.
· Serves as a resource in area of specialty and collaborates with other disciplines.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Current State of Iowa license as a registered nurse.
· Breastfeeding Educator certification or enrollment in college-level class on Human Lactation required.
· Demonstrates competency in instruction in breastfeeding techniques.
· Attends and successfully completes all generic and unit specific required education within the time frame defined in nursing policy.
· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
