Engineering Technician

Job Description

As an Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for conducting material testing for aggregates, soil, asphalt, non-destructive testing (NDT), concrete, concrete density, and steel. This role requires visiting multiple job sites daily throughout central Iowa. You will interact with contractors and project owners, collect samples of soil or concrete, perform foundation testing, ensure reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings, and log and track data from testing machines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct material testing for aggregates, soil, asphalt, NDT, concrete, and steel.

• Visit multiple job sites daily throughout central Iowa.

• Interact with contractors and project owners.

• Collect samples of soil or concrete and perform foundation testing.

• Ensure reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings.

• Log and track data from testing machines.

Essential Skills

• Experience in soil, concrete, and aggregate testing.

• Knowledge of construction materials such as asphalt, NDT, and steel.

• Familiarity with environmental science and geology.

• Proficiency in using a nuclear density gauge.

• ACI certification is a plus.

• 2+ years of construction testing experience in Earth, Dirt Work, Concrete, Steel, or related materials.

• Active Driver's License.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, or a similar field is preferred.

• Experience as a Construction Observer.

• Knowledge of geoscience and soil sampling.

Work Environment

This is a family-run company with a supportive and collaborative atmosphere. The team values longevity, with an average tenure of 15+ years, and invests heavily in employee education and certifications. You will have access to a company vehicle for site travel. The work schedule typically involves 40-60 hours per week, with occasional overtime and rare overnight stays. The start times vary between 5am - 7am, and you will work until the job is done. The company has a small, close-knit team and a culture that includes spending time together outside of work. Most clients are located in the Midwest, with some in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
