Principal Financial Group Assistant Director-Accounting in Des Moines, Iowa
What You'll Do
We’re looking for an Assistant Director for Accounting to join our International Finance team. In this role, you’ll be operating under the direction of senior management, contribute to functional strategy by demonstrating an advanced level of understanding of business needs and accounting policies. Lead a team of accounting professionals to achieve objectives. At this level, incumbents solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
Leadership and Collaboration: Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development while forging a strong relationship with the Accounting and Regional teams and other groups across the Company (Investor Relations, Corporate Finance, Corporate Accounting, etc.)
Financial Analysis: Interpret and translate financial statements to drive strategic and successful business decisions and growth; provide guidance to the business
Management Reporting: Contribute to complex and strategic management reporting used in decision making; Identify and implement best practice management reporting across the function and provide strategic insight on the content of reports
Strategy and policy formation: Apply knowledge of external trends, business strategy, and benchmark data to contribute to the formation of functional strategy and accounting policy; Design processes and relevant strategies according to best practice and produce corporate guidelines on provisions
Financial Planning & Analysis: Support forecast process ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic priorities; Analyze financial performance against strategic goals, providing meaningful insight and identifying areas for improvement
Projects: Participant in business unit and cross-functional projects and other ad-hoc activities as necessary

Who You Are
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant accounting experience required
CPA or other applicable certifications is a plus
Must possess the following strengths: high energy, motivated leader, problem-solving skills
Global experience a plus
Ability to interact with senior internal stakeholders
Attention to detail and process-minded, ability to work cross-functionally
Naturally curious to interrogate and validate financial information
Self-starter, highly motivated and ability to work on their own initiatives
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines through excellent project management skills
Ability to explain financial information to non-financial people
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Experience with PowerBI a plus
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$123000 - $167000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least four office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
