Your Mission:

As an Accountant, you will be the guardian of our program assets, ensuring every transaction is meticulously recorded. Your financial insights will guide our management and stakeholders, and your commitment to outstanding customer service will shine through in every interaction. You’ll be at the heart of our Federal and State program teams, providing essential accounting services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Financial Stewardship: Provide financial leadership for major programs, safeguarding assets and preparing financial statements in line with GASB standards.

  • Ensure Integrity: Evaluate and maintain effective internal controls, prepare journal entries, and manage account reconciliations.

  • Drive Efficiency: Oversee accounts receivable and bank reconciliations, maintain policy & procedure manuals, and manage grants.

  • Support Excellence: Assist with the agency’s annual independent audit, handle loan servicing, implement new GASB standards, and contribute to budgeting efforts.

    The Accountant position is a non-merit contract covered position that is classified by the State of Iowa as an Accountant 3.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with twelve semester hours in accounting course work and experience equal to thirty months of responsible full-time work in accounting, accounts examination or verification, budgeting or closely related fiscal work with a governmental agency, public accounting firm, or private industry;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for each year of the required education to a maximum of four years;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of graduate level course work in accounting, business administration or finance for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of sixty hours;

OR

Certified Public Accountants will qualify with eighteen months of the required experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to nine months of full-time work. as an Accountant 2.
