Position is PRN. Ideal candidate will have availability on Monday, Thursday, and Friday.

Shift options are: Opening 7:30a - 3:00p. Closing 8:00a - 4:30p. Expectation is at least 4 or more shifts per month.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Unit Secretary contributes to high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of clerical tasks. The Unit Secretary functions as receptionist for the unit and assists the patient care team while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.

This position supports the mission of HCA/HealthONE of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical care to meet the needs of the whole person. The Unit Secretary position organizes and manages the department activities. Oversees office supply inventory, room utilization, and audio/visual equipment utilization. Provides clerical support for the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Director of Risk Management & Safety. Coordinates special projects as assigned. Interacts with physicians, hospital directors, other hospital executives, as well as employees, patients and families. Assists in the completion of department assignments. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What you will do in this role:

• Greet patients and visitors in waiting areas, directing them to other departments, and keeping them informed of wait times.

• Promotes a positive, customer-oriented demeanor.

• Perform patient-centered secretarial tasks, such as physician order entry and creating, labeling, and organizing patient charts. Disassemble and file charts after discharge.

• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

• Receives and directs all incoming calls and relays messages.

What qualifications you will need:

• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

• High school graduate or equivalent

• Previous customer service and secretarial experience preferred

• Advanced computer skills preferred. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Knowledge of PC based computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and/or similar systems preferred. General knowledge of legal procedures/practices. Spelling, grammar, and verbal communication and written composition skills. Customer service skills.
