WSP USA SVP, Renewables Engineering Operations Leader in Denver, Colorado

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Operations Leader for our national Renewables Engineering Team. Be a key leader within WSP USA’s Energy team ranked #9 on ENR’s 2024 engineering list for the Power sector (and #5 overall), strategically focused on meeting our client’s objectives and solving their challenges within the Energy Transition.

WSP USA has an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in WSP's Energy engineering team, expanding our impact across the US market, preferably based out of our Boulder, CO, office . This is an operational role responsible for team engagement, business growth, and performance with market sector focus on decarbonization opportunities primarily related to deployment of utility-scale solar energy, wind energy, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), but also extending to other client-specific energy needs associated with the Energy Transition such as electrification, microgrids, and power delivery.

Your Impact

Clients

  • Bring an expanded view and integrated response to complex client challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end markets.

  • Utilize our extended reach of technical and subject matter experts (SMEs) across the US and globally to foster new and innovative client delivery.

  • Strategically grow and drive performance of our renewables engineering market share across the U.S. working with project owners, developers, and EPC clients.

  • Represent WSP as the “face of the company” in the Mountain West and across the US (when necessary) with clients, industry, and within WSP.

People & Culture

  • Serve as a local business leader within the Energy Sector located in the Mountain West geography, and work with designated Team Leads, other local/regional WSP leaders, and the National Energy Team to attract the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive.

  • Emphasize employee training and development to create a unique work experience.

Operational Excellence

  • Collaborate with leadership to strategically drive the business, assess and suggest improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Sales, Funding, EBITDA, Staff Hiring and Retention, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Inclusion & Diversity and Guiding Principles.

  • Develop local growth forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with Team Leads and Leadership.

  • Resolve conflicts and other internal/external issues that may arise in the office, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects.

Expertise

  • The ideal candidate for this role brings a strong background in energy infrastructure ideally with expertise in renewables engineering/projects or the development thereof.

  • Leverage WSP’s broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.

  • Partner with WSP Market Segment Leaders (e.g., Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Electrification & DER (Distributed Energy Resources), Power Delivery, Environmental), participating in strategy formation and business development.

  • Foster the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.

  • Advance the strategic direction of the region for sustained and continued growth consistent with the strategic plan.

  • Encourage, support and promote the technical and professional development of local WSP staff.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with a college degree or equivalent experience in the engineering consulting industry with a strong focus/background in the renewables energy and infrastructure value chain.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related discipline.

  • Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and delivery, including active involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the national renewables market.

  • Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on clients and/or sector activities.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $180,000 - $250,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
