Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Mountain Region is looking for a senior level practitioner with at least 5 years of experience preparing environmental documents pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) with a hydrogeologic resource focus. As a Senior Resource Specialist, you will provide assistance in the review and analysis of natural resources across a variety of projects for a diverse range of industries and clients, including federal, state, and local projects. This includes assistance with the preparation of NEPA (EA and EIS) documents, review of baseline reporting and groundwater flow modeling, jurisdictional determinations for waters of the United States, preparation of water monitoring and mitigation plans, wetland delineations, assessment of hydrogeologic conditions, and other related work. Our NEPA projects are primarily focused on mining, geothermal, and utility development on public lands in the Great Basin region. Successful candidates will be comfortable handling project development, management, and technical responsibility of environmental compliance and natural resources projects.

As a Senior Resource Specialist, you will have a strong understanding of NEPA analysis, including impact determinations, and be eager to learn a variety of environmental regulatory processes. Primary duties will focus on collaborating with management staff and other team members on research, technical report writing, and QA/QC review of analytical sections of environmental documents.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct impact analyses across a variety of natural resources and work to ensure the success of the team and efficiency of NEPA projects.

  • We are seeking a specialist with primary experience in water resources and geochemistry topics, including but not limited to surface water and groundwater quality and quantity, water rights, and wetlands and riparian zones.

  • Assist in data review and writing water resources and geochemistry sections and/or reports for NEPA and/or baseline documents. Assistance with NEPA analysis of other resources may be required.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods and sound knowledge of NEPA requirements and related environmental regulations.

  • Understanding of and experience reviewing groundwater flow models and completing associated drawdown impact analyses.

  • Experience reviewing and summarizing water quality reporting.

  • Experience reviewing and analyzing geochemical sampling data.

  • Familiarity with water and monitoring well drilling processes and regulations.

  • Understanding of applications of western water law.

  • Team oriented with strong capability to motivate others.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with planning projects and ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.

  • Experience and ability in collaborative problem solving, with teammates, stakeholders, and clients.

  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work independently and successfully lead development of specialized resource writing.

  • Experience with the BLM and/or USFS NEPA processes and requirements preferred.

  • A working knowledge of and experience with mapping software (ArcGIS) is a plus.

  • Excellent ability to facilitate decision making and issue resolution processes is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, hydrogeology, environmental science, environmental policy, environmental planning, or related field, and at least 5 years of related experience. Master’s degree is a bonus but not required.

  • 5 years of experience, preferably in environmental consulting, or working for a federal/state environmental agency and/or 5 years of experience working with environmental permitting projects relating to the NEPA. Experience with additional regulatory requirements a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience and or familiarity with various environmental regulatory policy.

  • Experience with task leadership.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work with others.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to self-start complex project tasks.

Project work that this role will be involved in is specific to Nevada-based projects, with some opportunities to work on projects in other western US locations.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $87,600 - $131,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

  • $93,900 - $140,900 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
