Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides overall Collibra domain expertise

  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and interviews (as needed) with Business and IT partners to understand strategy and requirements

  • Designs, configures, validates, and supports Collibra structures reflecting how CU is organized around data assets and metadata asset model

  • Partners with Collibra and/or third-party consultants, and internal CU resources to support Data Governance technology operations

  • Administers the Collibra application

  • Configures, validates, and implements functionality of Collibra platform (workflow, lineage diagrams, UI, dashboards, views, etc.) per CU's technology roadmap

  • Works closely with Data Governance Enablement team to bring together technical and data requirements for design, configuration, and expansion of Collibra and other third-party tools

  • Designs, develops, tests, implements, and maintains security model in Collibra supporting CU's data governance needs

  • Designs and implements automated and manual metadata import/export methods

  • Implements and maintains third party tools, e.g. Expleo, to automate ingestion of content/data into Collibra

  • Conducts meetings and reviews documentation as the need arises

  • Develops and delivers training materials, use case and asset model documentation, as well as implementation specification

  • Configures and maintains the required server infrastructure

  • Collaborates with a third party, Collibra, to coordinate upgrades on the cloud

  • Identifies and resolves issues or bugs introduced into the tool or process

  • Responsible to craft product content for internal website

  • Participates in Sprint planning and retrospective to manage and deliver work

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as backup to Collibra and Expleo product manager

  • Identifies, analyzes, and documents existing repositories or data management practices to accelerate Collibra metadata opportunities

  • Consults with IT, enterprise, and data architecture SMEs

  • Trains CU personnel on functionality implemented, including search, navigation, and metadata maintenance activities

  • Supports and delivers Metagovernance recommendations including Asset Models and Operating Models

  • Develops results for CU Technology roadmap (Collibra strategy) required to enable and/or support data governance and management capabilities

  • Identifies Collibra standard methodologies relevant to and required by our CU partners

  • Recommends curation processes for high quality content in Collibra

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications. You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis)

  • Three (3) years of software development or technical application management experience, including:

  • Crafting, developing, and implementing custom application code

  • Implementing and supporting third party (vendor) applications

  • Vendor coordination and supporting application and server upgrades

  • Java, Rest API, JSON, XML, and SOAP

  • Writing SQL queries

  • Detailed understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC)

  • Familiarity with data governance processes

  • Familiarity with agile processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience as detailed above

  • One (1) year of experience in data governance tool architecture and/or administration

  • Experience in:

  • Collibra as an Architect or Administrator

  • Higher education settings

  • Using SQL and APIs to retrieve data from cloud-based applications

  • Reporting, data warehousing, and data governance applications

  • Reporting on data warehouse data with exposure to star-schema design

  • Developing reports using Cognos (version 11 or newer), MicroStrategy, Tableau, or similar tools to build sophisticated reports, OLAP cubes, and dashboards, including administration

  • Proficient in BPMN and workflow creation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of data governance concepts

  • Knowledge of data warehouse concepts

  • Knowledge of SQL and Relations Database Management Systems (RDMS)

  • Ability to effectively communicate, in writing and verbally

  • Ability to participate as a solid teammate and highly motivated to work independently

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to provide hard-working service orientation with sensitivity to the needs of users at all skill levels

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Understanding of all software development life cycle (SDLC) areas

As part of the Data Governance group on the Data Governance Enablement team, this position exists to administer and maintain a data governance catalog product, Collibra, which exists to support the understanding of data therefore improving reporting and analytics for the university. The Senior Data Governance Engineer is a customer-centric position passionate about collaborating with internal functional and technical teams and advising key partners, developing analysis and reports, presenting the roll-out of upgrades, patches and improvements, system administration, and aiding end-user adoption and continued successes of the Collibra output. This role provides ongoing end-user support and maintains a solid data catalog architecture environment and provides customer guidance on BI standard processes as a member of a Data Governance Enablement team. This position reports to the Senior Director of Research, Grants, Customer Success, & Data Governance and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.

Remote - this role is eligible to work remotely within the United States, however, preference will be given to applicants residing in Denver.
