Job Summary

The Program Manager of Dental Education (PMDE) is a key member of the ACS (Ambulatory Care Services) Dental Team at Denver Health and has shared accountability for achieving the organization's mission, vision, strategy, and objectives.

The PMDE oversees the Denver Health Dental Assistant Training Program (DHDATP). This individual will play a key role in delivering high-quality education to students enrolled in the DHDATP. The PDME will aid in teaching students the necessary clinical, operational, and administrative skills required in the dental assisting field, following the guidelines and standards set by the American Dental Association (ADA), Colorado Department of Regulatory Agency (CO DORA), and other regulatory bodies. This individual is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, and verifying all certification requirements for their employees and dental assistant students. This individual is responsible for developing and revising curriculum for the DA training program, evaluating daily lessons, planning, reviewing, and implementing training and education for DA students. They are also responsible for the direct or indirect supervision of employees assigned to their program.

The PMDE has wide authority in supporting enterprise-wide DA clinical operations, collaborates on establishing the policies and procedures that promote DA standardizations, excellent quality patient care, and comply with all regulatory agency standards.

The PMDE routinely collaborates with other DH leaders to ensure proper flow of DA training, compliance, competence, and on-boarding. They will foster DA education, training and standards in the clinics to provide and deliver safe, quality, and compliant dental care to all patients.

Essential Functions:

Education Classroom Instruction & Curriculum Implementation - Develop and deliver engaging lessons in the classroom, covering topics such as dental assisting techniques, chairside procedures, infection control, radiology, and dental office operations. Works with DA instructors, DA preceptors and Practice Managers (DA Training Team) in planning daily activities and module materials to meet program objectives. Clinical Supervision & Skills Development - In partnership with the DA Training Team supports oversight and instruction in dental clinic settings. Helps to supervise students during clinical rotations, ensuring proper procedures, safety protocols, and infection control measures are followed. Teach lab procedures and techniques, including radiography, chairside assisting, patient seating, and sterilization. Student Assessment & Mentorship - Evaluate student progress, including clinical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional development. Provide constructive feedback to students, offering guidance and support to help them achieve program goals. Conduct regular assessments to ensure competency in core areas of dental assisting. 50%

Management Initiates and takes the lead in dental education, collaborations, and partnerships. Directs DA education program from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones, and processes. Obtains guest speakers. Arranges community service experiences and training visits to dental clinics. Develops and evaluates DA education, training, and onboarding. Reinforces dental education polices and standards. Acts as a resource to students and staff for clinical, clerical, operational and administrative questions. Coaches, mentors, councils, disciplines and follo s up with employees, DAs, and DA students regarding performance and behavior in a timely, consistent, and fair manner in collaboration with the Dental Leadership to help achieve professional growth and development.25%

Quality, Data Analysis and Reporting Manages DA training program using quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and measurable outcomes as criteria for success. Develops and implements improvement strategies and processes. Establishes the process, timeliness, and methods for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data and performance against metrics. Maintains compliance with Dental education and specific regulatory standards. Survey students to provide feedback and of any change that may be necessary. Review and track student evaluations prepared by instructors to determine progress and issues. 10%

Fiscal and Resource Management Directs the planning and monitoring of financial resources for the DA training program. Contribute to the annual budget planning process by managing and tracking expenses. Timely submission of necessary and required reports to Director of Dental Services.10%
