SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Manager, NPD Engineering leads the product engineering team to plan, organize, and complete product engineering projects. They are responsible for the research, design and management of basic and advanced projects related to new product introductions and driving growth through innovation. Additionally, the Manager, NPD Engineering will coordinate with the rest of the organization to achieve overall product development objectives.

REPORTING TO : Global Director of Engineering

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates the work activities of New Product Development Engineers assigned to the product lines.

  • Interfaces with other departments and management to communicate status of projects.

  • Confers with management, production, and commercial staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.

  • Directs, coordinates, and monitors personnel in the performance of assigned tasks and ensures that activity is in accordance with all requirements.

  • Provides guidance and coordinates engineering projects and programs to ensure that project staff completes assigned project requirements on time and within budget.

  • Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of a project, such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.

  • Oversees the successful use of the engineering change process (ECR) and the new product development tollgate process.

  • Develops and maintains control documentation including drawings, specifications and procedures.

  • Provides technical support to sales and manufacturing groups as required.

  • Works with the appropriate internal parties and/or Patent Attorney to determine patent feasibility and provide necessary documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrates ability to take product design from concept to launch.

  • Displays strong problem-solving skills using root cause analysis methods.

  • Defines scope of work and accurately estimates required effort and time.

  • Actively leads a team and looks for ways to be proactive.

  • Experienced in leading multi-department teams and other engineers.

  • Has experience working with contractors, outside service providers, and vendors.

  • Meets deadlines and can motivate a team toward achieving its goal.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

BS in Engineering or Technical Field

7+ years’ experience with a combination of management and product engineering

Physical Demands:

  • Requires use of hands and arms at least 90% of the time.

  • Majority of the time is spent sitting.

  • Lifting requirements are generally less than 10 lbs. Manual lifting could reach the company maximum of 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Climate-controlled office environment.

  • The employee will occasionally visit customer site for troubleshooting design.

  • Noise exposure is moderate.

Mental/Visual Demands:

  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are required to perform the job functions.

  • Peripheral vision is required for safety.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $104,000.00 - $156,000.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
