This position is responsible for directing an assigned Bus Maintenance Division and has primary responsibility to ensure compliance with the Local, State and Federal regulations governing the safe operation of vehicles (FMVSS, DOT, CVSA, EPA, and FTA). This role oversees the effective management of both represented and non-represented personnel, budgets, and maintenance programs of their division to deliver high-quality and reliable ser DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential: Recruits staff including interviewing, hiring, terminating, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of the Employee Guidelines and Collective Bargaining Agreement. Conducts performance reviews and holds employees accountable for optimal performance of their responsibilities. Evaluates and interprets the divisions budgetary needs and controls the established budget. Ensures timelines and contractual obligations are met for job picks, vacation voting, holiday postings and discipline documentation. Meets with union stewards on a regular basis for work/division related discussions. Establishes and maintains intergroup cooperation with internal stakeholders to maximize efficiencies, improve consistency and ensure professionalism in delivering high-quality services to external and internal customers. Analyzes needs, evaluates alternatives and develops strategies to ensure compliance, meet goals, and maintain quality standards in support of Bus Maintenance programs. Develops policies and procedures for work groups and makes recommendations for change to maintenance programs, policies and/or procedures. Promotes a positive and inclusive work environment by fostering teamwork, resolving conflicts, and encouraging employee development. Other: All other job-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Associates degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering - or a related technical discipline. A minimum of five years of supervisory experience in Transit/Vehicle Maintenance operation. A minimum of five years of work experience in heavy duty diesel/gasoline repair and maintenance, which include major overhauls. Knowledge of safety protocols, regulatory requirements (e.g. FMVSS, DOT, CVSA, etc.), and best practices in vehicle maintenance. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Fleet Maintenance Software, and specialized diagnostic tools, such as Cummins Engine In-Site and ZF-Tech transmission programs. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to use sound judgment. Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details. Ability to work off-shift as needed - including nights, weekends, and holidays. Preferred: Experience working in a unionized environment, with preference for supervisory roles that include knowledge of labor relations and collective bargaining agreements. Experience tracking performance metrics and ensuring KPIs are met. Demonstrated experience developing policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiencies. Previous experience managing or analyzing budgets. Or: An equivalent combinat on of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities.
