The Flight Operations team includes aircraft pilots and pilot support.

Flight Simulator Technician (FST)

This Technician position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement governed in accordance with the UA/IBT Flight Simulator Technicians Agreement. The department operates 24/7/365 and Technicians have a seniority-based bid schedule with rotating days off.

Job description and responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD) used in pilot training

  • Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to address sophisticated problems, those typically solved by accurately interpreting maintenance manuals or similar documents.

  • Capable of interpreting and working with computer systems applying various and multiple operating systems.

  • Includes FSTD prefights, tests and inspection, discrepancy troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, fabrication, repair and overhaul on FSTD’s and sub-systems.

  • Additional duties also include maintenance of simulated aircraft systems, test and inspection of equipment to circuit board and component level hardware used in the maintenance and repair of FSTD equipment at the Denver Flight Training Center.

  • FSTs shall perform Qualification Test Guide (QTG) testing as the need arises to maintain FSTD’s to their FAA Qualification Level.

  • Runs diagnostics and uses results for isolation of problems.

  • Diagnose and resolve problems associated with the initialization or operation during each training mission.

  • Monitors and supervises the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities applying the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS).

  • Repairs and aligns visual display systems.

  • Performs functional testing of control loading systems and can repair or adjust system to FAA standards.

  • Uses all available data and sources to verify simulated systems operation. Assist in identifying update requirements.

  • Must be proficient of resolving status of a device using diagnostics and standard solving techniques and to make appropriate repairs.

  • Applies fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers.

  • Interprets mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic schematics and drawings for use in troubleshooting.

  • Follows established OSHA and EPA guidelines and ensures that the workplace is maintained in a clean and safe condition.

  • Works well with co-workers in diverse team environment.

  • Provides accurate and timely updates as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED or education equivalent.

  • Completion of US military or commercial electronics program or two (2) or more years of simulator maintenance technician experience.

  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (prior to official start date).

  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality following United's Policies and guidelines.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

P referred

  • Associate degree or higher in a related field

  • Two years of hands-on experience in maintaining, repairing, and fixing flight simulators including computer, input/output devices, motion & control loading systems, visual systems & peripheral devices.

  • Skilled at use and operation of test equipment used in fixing electronic equipment.

  • Possess skills to perform calibrations, adjustments and tests on electronic equipment; analyze operation, verify discrepancies, isolate malfunctions and replace defective components used in installed devices.

  • Aircraft maintenance work experience within an Aerospace Repair shop environment and an Airframe license.

  • Understand FAA testing requirements and be capable of performing all systems and flight test vital to confirm simulator compliance.

  • Experience working in a 121 or 142 operators' environment

Starting hourly rate is $61.34 (subject to collective bargaining agreement)
