Job Summary

An Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist conducts EEG examinations under general supervision. The END Technologist is responsible for the preparation of the patient, conducting EEG examinations, and collecting information pertinent for the interpretation of the test, maintaining the equipment and disposables needed to conduct testing, management and storage of EEG data, monitoring additional electrophysiological phenomena by means of appropriate techniques and instrumentation, identifying common EEG artifacts, gross pathological findings, and status epilepticus. The END Technologist may assist in the training of other junior END students.

Essential Functions: Performs standard EEG recording including: a) Summarizes the patient's neurological status and clinical history from the chart, the patient or other care providers. b) Explains the recording procedure to the patient, family members, and hospital staff. c) Adapts methods of instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations, and EEG findings. d) Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures/events and other patient emergency situations. e) Follows fall precaution protocols and ensure electrical safety of patients at all times. (85%) Demonstrates proficiency in the standard department workflow in the EMR. Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining daily inter-personal relationships and communication with clinical team. Provides equipment maintenance and identification of major repairs. Participates in conferences, technical meetings, and other on-site and off-site educational activities. Assists END Supervisor in program development and laboratory organization. (15%)

Education: High School Diploma or GED required

Work Experience: Demonstrates competency with the 10/20 system of electrode placement required.

Licenses: BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform the technical component of EEG application: accurate measurement and application of electrodes. Ability to perform the recording component of the EEG study: able to collect relevant patient history, perform bio calibrations, perform and understand the indication for provocative measures, alter montages to maximize different states recorded during EEG. Ability to ensure proper storage of EEG collected through knowledge of hospital ordering system workflow and nomenclature. Skill in developing rapport with patients of diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds, as well as have comfort with physical patient contact. Superior communication skills in interacting with nurses, physicians, patients, family and other hospital staff.
