Job Title: Corps Assistant

FLSA Status: Full Time - Exempt Reports to: Corps Officers

Supervises: N/A

Rate of Pay: $56,650 Annually

Closing Date: 10/24/2024

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Scope of Position: A Corps Assistant of The Salvation Army Denver Red Shield Corps shall be a person of genuine Christian character, of emotional, mental and physical stamina, and a loyal participant of a ministry team, able to work well and cultivate trust with other people in a growing congregation. This person must represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner at all times in personal conduct and appearance.

A Uniformed Salvationist is preferred or willing to become and/or be enrolled within in the first six months.

In addition, this person should:

  • Experience with a variety of Salvation Army programs and Christmas Programs and possess a working knowledge of Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.

  • Ability to make independent judgments with the approval of, but independent of constant supervision from, the Corps Officer(s) including, but not limited to managing staff and volunteers, scheduling employee and volunteer hours, etc.

  • Ability to make decisions in “Matters of Significance” including, but not limited to the ability to formulate, affect, interpret, or implement management policies or operating practices above and beyond applying well-established techniques, procedures or specific standards described in manuals or other sources.

In all above listed areas, training may be made available to assist in reaching proficiency.

Essential Functions:

Corps Program:

  • Oversee and/or run Corps youth programs including, but not limited to: Corps Cadets, Troops, Kid’s Night Out, Encore, Youth Sunday School. Establish YPL youth nights and recruit volunteers to help out. Provide support for other youth programs in the community center including After School, Sports Programming, Musical Theatre, to be a bridge from community center programs to Corps programs.

  • Assist the Corps Officers as needed with Corps adult programs including, but not limited to: fellowship times, outreach activities, Young Adult Worship Nights, visitation, Bible studies, Home League, Senior Fellowship, recruiting soldiers, recruiting congregation members for volunteer positions, transportation, Special Events and Corps Reviews.

  • Provide support for and, in most cases, attend Divisional and Territorial programs such as camp meetings, Congresses, etc.

  • Actively participate in the Christmas fundraising Kettle program as requested including but not limited to driving, counting, recruitment and supervision of volunteers, public relations and any other assigned duties from Corps Officer(s).

  • Actively participate in Christmas programs, Angel tree and Christmas toy/food distribution as requested, including but not limited to: Assist with recruiting sites, deliver tags, toy pickups, participate in set up, distribution event and clean up.

  • Adjust work schedule in accordance with Salvation Army programming including camp schedules, Divisional weekend events and special Saturday or Sunday events.

    Secondary Functions:

    Administration

  • Assist Office Assistant/Receptionist as needed in the collection of stats and data entry of same

    Assist Office Manager in ensuring all income is accounted for and reported per TSA policy

  • Assist in preparation of invoices for payment as needed

  • Assist as requested with audio/video equipment operated by computer in the chapel, and other areas for programs hosted by the corps

  • Assist as needed with the production of various member directories, flyers, Sunday Bulletins, etc.

    Corps Maintenance

  • Make every effort to help keep the Corps building clean and in good repair, especially during and after programs

  • Assist the Corps Officers as requested with special projects, janitorial and maintenance of the Corps.

Education and Work Experience:

  • College Degree: Desired; High School diploma or equivalent: Required

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience Corps programming.

  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army programs, policies and procedures a plus

  • Must be minimally 21 years of age and possessing a valid Colorado License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to teach Christian principals and lead Salvation Army programming

  • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication

  • Ability to use Spanish in verbal and written communication a plus.

  • Ability to recruit, lead and empower volunteers and employees

  • Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines

Software-related skills:

Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher (Or other graphics program) required, working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, Ability to access and produce information from a computer, Ability to understand written information.
