Summary of Job Classification:
Provides project facilitation and expert consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of court facilities and the State of Colorado Courthouse Complex. Manages facility architect/planning team.

Fiscal Responsibility:

Essential Functions:

Travels frequently throughout the state of Colorado to provide expert consultation to the Judicial Department in collaboration with Judicial District personnel, County personnel, Facility teams, and Security teams for the planning, design and construction of court facilities within the codes, standards and specifications of the industry.
Works with management, Facilities, Security, contractors, and consultants to define, review, and specify the requirements for new construction and remodeling projects, building maintenance, industrial hygiene, building security, electrical and mechanical systems, landscaping, life safety, space utilization, furnishings, and long-range facilities planning.
Prepares recommendations for the Chief Justice regarding the approval of design plans and
specifications for new and remodeled facilities.
Reviews and monitor the work of contracted architectural services. Ensure conformance to contract requirements and design principles and standards.
In conjunction with Facility and Security teams, prepares, evaluates, and awards bids for
construction, maintenance, and life safety projects.
Provides technical assistance to boards of county commissioners regarding economic analysis of facility alternatives, energy conservation, life cycle costs, courthouse security measures and equipment, and life safety concerns.
Works with Facility Team at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center and appropriate parties within the judicial districts to take prompt corrective action concerning any potential safety hazards and enforces compliance with applicable local and state building codes. All safety rules and regulations.
Update building blueprints and drawings to reflect "as built" plans.
Collaborates with Judicial teams to maintain the Colorado Judicial Department Court Facilities Guidelines and Space Standards.
Position will review and authorize architectural work as designated representative and delegate of the Office of the State Architect.
Attends meetings and trainings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments:
This position will travel to meet judicial customers throughout the state in need of planning and design work for court facilities. The work location for this position will be at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center in Denver Colorado with the flexibility of hybrid work.
Along with the minimum qualifications required for the position, a valid active driver's license is needed. Experience in project management principles and processes would be a highly sought after preferred qualification.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.

Physical Effort Requirements:
Medium Work - Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Work Environment:
Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. The position may involve frequent visits to construction sites, which may present hazards, exposure to the outdoors, and a high level of noise. Protective equipment such as a hard hat and ear and eye protection shall be worn as required.
Work Location:
Travel to district courthouse and probation office locations required. Office or construction
environments.
Exposures:
Individuals who are hostile or irate.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Education and Experience Equivalency:
All candidates must possess and maintain a license as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Examiners of Architects. Employees in this class must maintain such certification throughout their employment with the Colorado Judicial Department.
Work Related Experience:
Minimum of four years of experience in directing and supervising work in architectural design,
technical drawing and documentation, structural engineering fundamentals, sustainable and green building practices, construction management, building codes and regulatory compliance, cost estimation and budgeting, security-related infrastructure and high-rise commercial operations. Minimum of two years of experience in supervising subordinates and other architects.
Licenses and Certifications:
