Established in 1961, the Veterinary Science Technology Program at The State University of New York - Delhi was the first of its type in the United States. Since its inception, it has developed into a dynamic, nationally recognized program, fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The Veterinary Science Department has extensive laboratory facilities, a versatile faculty and staff, and a hands-on curriculum providing on-site experience with companion, laboratory, farm and other animals.
The Position:
Primary duties of the Instructional Support Associate (ISA)
Assisting in lab set-up/ clean-up, teaching, demonstrating equipment and/or observing and assisting students in the development of appropriate skills.
Under supervision of the Facility Manager, the ISA will be responsible for husbandry and medical care of any animals used by the Veterinary Technology program.
Assist in the management and maintenance of the vivarium including responsibility for operation, care, maintenance and/or repair of program equipment.
Responsible for humane care of the animals in the Farnsworth vivarium through coordination of schedules of Farnworth Instructional Support Staff, work study, students and other personnel
Care of necropsy specimens, disposal of specimens/carcasses
Assist in instruction in laboratory sections offered by the department, demonstrating equipment and/or observing and assisting students in the development of appropriate skills as assigned by the Dean or Program Director
Maintain pharmacy, communicate with veterinarians and/ or facility manager concerning pharmacy supply needs in Farnsworth Hall
With Facility Manager, help develop and coordinate standard operating procedures for the vivarium, materials, health records, facility inspections, and equipment of the department in accordance with federal and state regulatory agencies ( i.e. USDA, OSHA, IACUC).
Adhering and enforcing the IACUC approved animal use guidelines for each animal being used for laboratories
Perform animal intake/discharge of animals belonging to shelter, rescue or community owned animals
Assist in training Farnsworth Instructional Support Staff, work study students and other personnel
Perform and/ or oversee routine and emergency maintenance of equipment used in support of the program
When necessary assist in purchasing, procurement, and receiving of supplies and equipment needed to support the Veterinary Science Program
Assist and facilitate sending diagnostic samples to laboratories for testing
Participate in Accepted Student Days as needed
Tours and interviews with prospective students.
Assist at the College Farm as needed
Additional responsibilities may include; department and college committee work, and responsibility for operation, care, maintenance and/or repair of program equipment
Job Requirements:
Graduate of an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program.
Current licensed veterinary technician (LVT, CVT, RVT).
Ability to be licensed in NY within 6 months of employment.
Minimum three years of practice or research experience.
A good team player with enthusiasm for supporting veterinary technology students in their education is of the utmost importance.
Additional Information:
Salary: $49,261
Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate, SL-2
Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday days, with occasional variable and weekend hours
Reports to: Facility Manager
This is a 12 month position
