Children's Home and Aid Bilingual Home Visitor (Healthy Families) in Dekalb, Illinois

The Bilingual Healthy Families Home Visitor is a critical member of the agency’s prevention and family support programs, providing comprehensive, long-term home-visiting services within a strength-based, family-centered model to high-risk expectant parents and families with young children. As a Home Visitor, you will assess the strengths and needs of children and families, partner with parents to establish family and child development goals, and support families in expanding their support systems.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Meet regularly with expectant parents and families with young children (birth – 5) in their homes to complete assessments, develop goals, and provide services aligned with the strengths and needs of the child and family.

  • Provide observations of parent-child interactions, including assessing for effective communication and empathic responses, and engage parents in reflective dialogue on the developing parent-child relationship.

  • Assist parents in forming community connections aligned with service goals, including referral and linkage with providers of early intervention, mental health, health care, and other supportive services.

  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with key community providers.

  • May sometime assist with facilitating parent support groups.

Candidate qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Child Development, or a closely related field required.

  • At least one year of experience working with families with children under the age of 5 required.

  • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English and Spanish required.

  • Adept at communicating effectively – both in writing and verbally. (The ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish highly desirable.)

  • Knowledge of child development and parent-child relationships, and the ability to relate to families from a strengths-based, family-centered service model, even in an apparently chaotic family environment.

  • Ability to attend in-person and virtual family visits and meetings in DeKalb County, IL, and you have a valid driver's license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle.

Job details:

  • Compensation: Range starts at $19/hr; offers are commensurate with experience. B ilingual candidates may receive additional financial compensation.

  • Schedule: Full-time, hourly; general business hours with some flexibility required for evening family visits and special projects.
