Aston Carter Sales Use Tax Audit in Deerfield, Illinois

Job Title: Sales Use Tax AuditJob Description

Assists in managing state and local sales and use tax audits and controversy matters in 50 states for over 140 companies within the organization. Proactively monitors audits to close audits as favorably and expeditiously as possible, defends tax positions through strategic analysis and tax technical research and analysis, works with cross-functional tax and operational teams to aggressively defend tax returns, assesses ASC 450 reserves related to audits, and guides and mentors staff and develops relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile large data sets in Excel.

  • Pull invoices, journal entries, etc., from various systems to support taxability decisions.

  • Research various products and purchases to determine taxability.

  • Defend tax positions through strategic analysis and tax technical research and analysis.

  • Work with cross-functional tax and operational teams to aggressively defend tax returns.

  • Assess ASC 450 reserves related to audits.

  • Guide and mentor staff.

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience with public accounting, corporate tax and/or accounting at a firm, State department of revenue or company OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience with public accounting, corporate tax and/or accounting at a firm, State department of revenue or company.

  • Experience with project management.

  • At least 2 years of experience in indirect tax and/or audit management.

  • Great Excel skills (pivots, vlookups, zlookups, sums).

  • Strong understanding of sales/use tax.

  • Friendly, bright, and self-starter.

  • Advanced Excel skills including vlookup.

  • Analytical and research-minded.

  • Not afraid to be challenged.

  • Research-oriented, not just checking 1 or 2 places for information.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP, Ariba, and user-friendly home-grown systems.

  • High-volume experience.

  • Retail experience helpful, particularly in pharmacy.

Work Environment

Direct and Indirect Tax teams work closely together. 3 days per week in office in a convenient Deerfield location, typically Tuesday through Thursday. The environment is professional yet not overly formal, and team collaboration is highly valued.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00
