* *DENTAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR MONTANA STATE PRISON DEER LODGE, MT * * MISSION -Montana Department of Corrections is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. JOB OVERVIEW –The Dental Department provides preventive and comprehensive dental care to incarcerated persons. Dentists, a dental hygienist and dental assistants provide oral care, oral screening, oral examinations and oral treatment to ensure the offenders dental needs are met. Under the direction of the Health Services Medical Program Manager and with oversight by the Health Services Bureau Chief; the Dental Services Supervisor provides supervision and oversight of the dental clinics and dental care of offenders daily. The Dental Services Supervisor: * Performs administrative tasks and clerical functions for the Dental Department. * Will function as a clinical dental assistant as needed. The Dental Assistant performs paraprofessional, technical, and administrative work in assisting the Dentist, Denturist, or Hygienist in performing comprehensive and preventative oral care to the inmates at Montana State Prison. * Performs data collection on inmate patients to assess level of needed dental care and schedules patients based on their triaged oral treatment plan. * Compiles data and information critical to the functions of the Dental Services Unit and coordinates daily operations of the Dental Department. * Assigns tasks, clinic assignments, establishes work pace, demonstrates proper work methods and reviews work products for accuracy, adequacy and timeliness. * Assures that work is equitably distributed, ensures office policies and safety procedures are followed and resolves scheduling and other detail problems. Manages the Dental Policies and Procedures manual, dental protocols, and overall Continuous Quality Improvement Manual. * Responsible for dental continuous quality improvement. Completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations. * Collaborates with dental authorities to assure National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) dental standards for prisons are followed and prepares the Dental Services Department for accreditation by maintaining appropriate information and records to demonstrate compliance. * Acts as a resource to provide knowledge for dental related process and technical issues to MSP/MDIU, RSNU, MWP, and Pine Hills correctional facilities. * Assists in ensuring dental staff is providing quality and appropriate patient care that meets or exceeds company and regulatory standards. * Assist with recruiting, hiring, providing orientation/training, and retaining qualified staff to carry out the responsibilities of dental services. * Ensures employee’s performance meets or exceeds expectations and periodic performance appraisals are conducted on a timely basis. * Assists in maintaining administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the proper charting and documentation of dental care. QUALIFICATIONS The below knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to: * Minimum completion of a dental assistant/dental hygiene/dentistry program, community college, or vocational program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Successfully completed a board-approved radiology written examination. * Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of directly related supervisory experience in a dental clinic or medical setting. * Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.
