Description

The Task Force for Global Health is an Emory University affiliate located in Decatur, GA. Its programs focus on building durable public health systems that serve all people. Focus areas include neglected tropical diseases, vaccines, and health systems strengthening. The Task Force received the 2016 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize–the world's largest award of its kind–in recognition of its extraordinary contributions to alleviating human suffering.

The mission of Children Without Worms (CWW) is to enhance community health and development by addressing the morbidity associated with soil-transmitted helminth infections. The program operates through three key pillars: first, by providing technical leadership to governments and organizations in implementing and evaluating deworming programs; second, by supporting country programs in expanding their networks and establishing links with other control programs; and third, by collaborating with other organizations and advocating for policies to strengthen deworming efforts. Through these strategic approaches, CWW contributes to the control of soil-transmitted helminthiasis by supporting the development and implementation of effective, evidence-informed deworming programs across the globe.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides public health expert consultative services to countries' ministries of health, US counties, cities or states, for the Task Force for Global Health.

  • Plans, develops, and implements public health programs in collaboration with local, state, and international governments and various public, non-profit, and private and health-related organizations.

  • Analyzes existing or proposed systems, strategies, services, or other health-related matters; identifies needs for improvement and the methods and resources to accomplish such improvements.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors performance evaluation and tracking systems; evaluates and analyzes data collection and utilization methods and quality control.

  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing program plans and data sets consistent with funding requirements and national initiatives.

  • Leads and/or participates in operational or planning meetings, public briefings, or other formal and informal settings to publicize program and/or gain support and cooperation.

  • Assists with developing strategies for program promotion, education, communication, and outreach.

  • Independently, or in collaboration with others, prepares and/or assists with preparing contracts, agreements, proposals, etc. for professional, laboratory, or other services pertinent to the program, study, or project.

  • Assists in planning, implementation, and operation of training systems for practitioners, researchers, and other professionals.

  • Conducts and/or assists in the development and delivery of training courses (e.g., community planning, prevention and intervention, outreach strategies, data collection, etc.); and assists with special studies and/or demonstrations.

  • Independently, or in collaboration with others, prepares reports and other substantive program documentation including technical documents on research findings, scientific methodologies, evaluation results, fact sheets, etc.

  • Develops strategies for dissemination of information to professional groups, private and public sector organizations, health agencies, and the media through publications, correspondence, and presentations.

  • Manages and oversees funding/budgets and a variety of grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and other awards including initiation, administration, award, monitoring, evaluation, coordination, and close-out.

  • Serves as the principal program representative and provides program expertise, guidance, and leadership on unusually difficult and complex programs.

  • Provides comprehensive technical, administrative, and management advice and guidance on program activities that are extremely broad and diverse and are carried out by a large staff usually organized in multiple operating echelons.

  • Formulates program strategies including goals, priorities, operating policies, and evaluation methods and approaches.

  • Designs and carries out long-range planning and evaluation.

  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and/or synthesizes a large amount of program data to prepare summaries and reports.

  • Recruits and supervises student interns and fellows.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the individual in this role will be to provide technical oversight, leadership and strategic planning, and program management of CWW’s STH portfolio. Specific responsibilities are listed below.

Technical oversight (60%):

  • Support country programs in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of evidence from field-based soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) surveys.

  • Support program staff and partners in drafting and submitting manuscripts to scientific journals.

  • Identify and address technical support and training needs to enhance country partner capacity.

  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations on research findings and STH-related concepts.

  • Provide technical support to pharmaceutical donors, World Health Organization staff, and partners, including advising donors on strategic, operational, technical, and medical aspects of deworming medicine donations.

  • Serve as a principal program representative, providing program expertise, guidance, and leadership, includingrepresenting the program at national and international meetings, and in external working groups, committees, or workshops.

  • Provide support to CWW’s role as Secretariat of the STH Advisory Committee.

  • Oversee and coordinate special projects within the program.

  • Collect, compile, analyze, and synthesize program data for reports and summaries.

  • Prepare substantive program documentation, including technical reports and research findings.

Leadership andstrategic planning (20%):

  • Collaborate with the Director to formulate short- and long-term program strategies, operating policies, and strategic planning processes, and to develop funding proposals.

  • Formulate program strategies, including setting goals, priorities, operating policies, and evaluation methods and approaches.

  • Participate in new business development, including collaborating with the Director to drive growth initiatives to ensure CWW evolves in line with global health and development trends and the needs of donors and supported countries.

  • Provide leadership and strategic input on technical assistance and policy analysis.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, providing regular updates on program achievements and seeking opportunities for collaboration and funding partnerships.

  • Advocate for operational research and participate in discussions with relevant stakeholders to ensure key STH research questions are addressed with scientific rigor.

Program management (20%):

  • Work with other CWW staff to review contracts and budgets required to support field activities.

  • Support CWW staff in other duties as assigned, including planning and facilitating technical meetings, and supporting mid-year and annual report drafting.

  • Develop strategies to address program challenges and enhance value for donors and partners.

  • Recruit and supervise student interns and fellows.

TRAVEL:

  • 10-20% domestic and/or international travel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in public health from an accredited school, and five years of experience working with countries to implement public health intervention and strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree in a related research-oriented field (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, parasitology, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in neglected tropical diseases, particularly STH.

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementing health projects and programs.

  • Proficiency in leading STH prevalence surveys in school or community settings.

  • Strong data analysis skills with proficiency in R and SAS programming.

  • Ability to synthesize, interpret, and communicate complex epidemiological concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Proven track record of contributing to scientific publications.

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work independently.

  • Commitment to excellence, integrity, and ethical conduct in all aspects of work.
