Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The operator leads the slitter crew, overseeing processing, in-process inspection, and aligning operational needs with plant management directives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Operates steel slitting line efficiently and follows operational protocols.

 Adheres to production schedules by executing machine orders accurately.

 Directs and supervises associated support personnel to ensure smooth workflow.

 Provides steel samples as required for quality control purposes.

 Assumes responsibility for executing all assigned administrative tasks.

 Trains and mentors slitter helpers/slitter setup personnel to transition into operator roles effectively.

 Upholds strict adherence to safety regulations outlined in the Plant Employees Manual, ensuring the protection of personnel and facilities.

 Demonstrates punctuality and adherence to attendance policies outlined in the Attendance Policy section of the Plant Employee Manual.

 Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

High school education or GED required. Team member must have the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment. Must be able to also meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift. Team member must also be able to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

 Position demands prolonged periods of standing, walking, and operating machinery.

 Operators must have precise hand-eye coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively.

 Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.

 Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.

 Ability to hear warning signals and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.

 Clear vision is necessary to inspect materials and read gauges and instruments accurately.

 Problem-solving skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during operations.

 Operators must be capable of making quick decisions to optimize processes and minimize downtime.

 Flexibility to adapt to changing demands and work effectively under pressure.

 Effective communication is essential for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues promptly.

 Maintain orderly work areas and adhere to production schedules.

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS:

Operator will have access to a diverse array of equipment, including specialized machinery such as Slitters, band breakers, pneumatic banders/crimpers, hand banders, hand cutters, staple guns, electric shears, and nibblers, all tailored for specific tasks within steel processing. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in operating auxiliary tools like Jib cranes for material handling, precision instruments like micrometers and calipers for measurements, pneumatic impact wrenches for assembly tasks, and standard tools such as tape measures and calculators for operational support. The use of specialized tools like ID/OD calculator wheels and Rockwell machines further underscores the precision and expertise required in this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The primary work environment is within a steel manufacturing facility, which may include:

 Exposure to moving machinery, heavy equipment, and sharp objects.

 Work areas may be subject to fluctuating seasonal temperatures, including hot and cold conditions.

 Loud noise from machinery and equipment operation.

 The presence of dust, debris, and airborne particles typical of an industrial setting.

 Adherence to strict safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with the manufacturing process.

SUPERVISION AND CO-WORKERS/ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily available. Attendance is closely monitored, as unscheduled absences may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.

CONSEQUENCES IF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS NOT PERFORMED

Failure to follow established safety rules and procedures may result in loss of position or termination of employment.

Failure to meet the requirements of the Attendance Policy will result in termination.

Failure to observe safety procedures in material handling may result in serious injury up to fatality and/or damage and loss of material or property.

Failure to process charts in priority order may result in production delays or customer delivery delays, which may in turn result in the loss of business.

Failure to follow proper operating procedures may result in excess scrap which may in turn result in production delays or customer delivery delays. This may result in decreased profitability and/or the loss of business.

Failure to complete appropriate paperwork may result in inventory shortage through loss of material or improper billing of the customer. Not Job Hoppy null
